I would like to know how come I cant record automation from my MIDI controller...
I'm using Cubase SX 2 host and Radium 61 controller,
and when I try to record automation to a vst plugin,
it wont record... but its recording from mouse, when I'm playing with a knob...
is there any way to link the controller for recording?
thanx.

I can't help you, but: You might get more response when you edit your post and put Cubase in the subject line.
Edit: too late now, but I sent you pm about it

Unlike mouse type automation which is recorded as part of the mixer, midi automation in Cubase is recorded as midi - you can either record it on your existing vsti midi track or set up a seperate midi track.

yes, it does record it to a midi track as bars,
but when I'm changing my automation I'm changin it on the instrument, not at the track, so it would be easier to change it...

As I said, record the midi control data to another track with the same midi channel as the vsti you want to control.

1. The VSTi you want to automate has MIDI input, right? Otherwise the MIDI recording had no sense, I guess...metalball wrote:so basicly I cant record my automation with the MIDI as well as with my mouse??
2. The VST should also be able to output (forward back to the host) that MIDI data IF YOU WANT TO RECORD TH MOUSE MOVEMENTS VIA MIDI. Only this way the host application has the chance to record *tweaked* GUI controls it in realtime via MIDI on a channel...
3. You should be able to setup your VSTi in a way, where it is possible to record the MIDI while playing the VSTi (with Cubase that's easiely possible). Maybe use extra MIDI channels for each controler...
Playing the VSTi is always on a MIDI channel. But VST automation on a VST channel. That are two different shoes. So why cant you record the MIDI input? Probably you try to record MIDI on a VST channel. This don't work.
While VST automation only can automate one channel (by default), MIDI is able to automate up to 16 channels simultanuous...
Don't mix up the concepts of automation.

have you enabled midi learn on the synth you want to automate and assigned the knob on your controller to that particular paramater on the synth?

VSTi use regular automation, not MIDI automation unless the VSTi has implemented MIDI CC control. What VSTi are we talking about?
In the cases where the VST doesn't support MIDI CC control you have to use the GRC to map the MIDI CCs to the VSTi controls. It is not the easiest thing to use in the world.

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer
