Advice on guitar needed

I'm thinking about starting over with guitar--after 20 years without, it's time to go
So far I'm looking at Ibanez Jumpstart Pack (Ibanez GRX40+ 10W amp+some accessories), which is RR5580 (anbout US$200) in these places. The question is--is it any good? (For a 34 y.o. hobbyist who does remember but a pair of chords)

I don't think a practice amp is of much use, I would buy a headphone amp myself if I could. A good headphone amp is something you will be using years from now, a practice amp will not see much use, IMHO.
Also, you can check the archives of the alt.guitar newsgroup at groups.google.com. Currently the favorites there seem to be whatever rondomusic.com is importing and the Yamaha Pacifica entry-level guitars. Not dissing Ibanez here, it's a well-known brand.
Lots of very reasonable cheap guitars floating around these days... Squier Bullet, Dean,... much better than what we had back in the day.
Hope this helps... rock on!

I just bought this:

185 € - good guitar, does the job.
And get a behringer v-amp for 99€ and you got all you need...

Hmmm... that may be an option, but that's 2 times more pricey--is it worth the money? (sorry for obviously ignorant question)bluelife wrote:I just bought this:

If you want to play guitar 'by itself' then an amp might be useful, and the quality of the amp could be important. If you want to use the guitar to record with your songs, a good pre-amp may be more useful.Jazz Franco wrote:I'm thinking about starting over with guitar--after 20 years without, it's time to goSo far I'm looking at Ibanez Jumpstart Pack (Ibanez GRX40+ 10W amp+some accessories), which is RR5580 (anbout US$200) in these places. I recently bought a cheap bass-guitar with a 10W amp, but actually never used the amp, always plug it in my pre-amp effectbox and into the computer.
btw regarding the type of guitar: Play on it, and feel it. I recently bought a Stagg Fender clone (about $100), but it plays well (my other guitars are Yamaha APX and Gibson Les Paul) and I didn't mind it being cheap.

Thanx, M'Snah, that was helpful! I actually think about using guitar in my songs (when I re-learn how to play it, if ever
), so I definitely will look at other options then... What would you say about J&D JD-ST Mini (I'd like a smaller size guitar) + Behringer X-V Amp?

One thing to keep in mind 'though: Cheap guitars == cheap pickups. This might not be a problem for you when recording in your home through a V-amp or such, but if you were planning to play it live on a big amp (especially with distortion), you might encounter serious feedback problems. Just so you know....

Id rather buy a good secondhand guitar, u can always sell it on when u dont like it anymore and the quality is much better. U wont get any money back for a cheap new guitar. Look for a good secondhand Fender or Gibson. Cheaper guitars are cheaper because the use cheaper parts like the tuning pegs, bridge, the wood etc. Especially bad tuning pegs can be a horror, u dont want your guitar to detune when your recording. Same goes for tremolo-bar.
