Potlid Samples

Well... I was thinking of doing a track that incorporated people playing on various types of kitchen implements (somewhat in the style of Stockhausen's Microphonie #1). The first thing I was playing around with was a lid from a standard 2-quart pot. While I was at it, I decided to make a few samples of various hits, possibly for importing into a drum sampler - the following archive is the result.

Now, mind you, this is the first time I've ever tried to sample something, and I don't exactly have much in the way of pro recording equipment, as most of my music is entirely computer-based. So, the samples are recorded on a MicFlex computer mike, in a room that's not exactly noiseproof. However, despite all this, the samples came out okay - well, to my ears at least.

There are 6 samples, in AIFF format. Uncompressed is about 3.2 MB - the download is about 1.2 MB with ZIP compression.

If these sound interesting to you, let me know, and I'll make some more samples while playing different things for this project. Although, I'd probably need to find more hosting if I do a lot more of this (I tried registering for AudioShots a while back, but my account never activated).

Also, I'd be happy to hear any tips people might have for sampling various things (I've been thinking of maybe doing some nature/ambient samples as well) - decent mics you can plug into a computer, inexpensive field recording-type setups, tips on getting rid of extraneous noise, etc.
