is it there a minihost? like a notebook for ideas with a simple sequencer ?

well, there is always minihost. That would probably be a good place to start

..although i've never used it so im not sure if it just loads vsti's or actualy has a seq. built in.

TobyBears minihost has a simple step sequencer, usefull when tweaking synths.

my guess is you could try some of the low-end hosts like Tracktion, maybe Podium, dunno really... It would be useful if you could expand on the idea you first quickly noted. So any host with a fast & intuitive workflow should be fine.
