Where did your user name evolve from?

Mine is a shortened version of my last name.

All my friends call me Scant.

So what about you?

-Duane-

Well, I evolved (or rather was engineered) from the common striped skunk plus human genes here and there. My name is an affectionate/diminutive form of "Mephistoff," which in turn comes from the Latin name of my species, Mephitis anthro-mephitis sapiens. The "sapiens" part is purely honorary; I show few if any signs of intelligence.

My name comes from my interests in this:

and this:

"Harmony recognizes harmony and when we liberate ourselves from our illusions and from the bondage of sense limitations we become aware of the music of the spheres. Pythagoras in his Lyre of Terpander added an eighth string, sounding an octave and symbolizing the highest heaven as revealed in Hermetic Philosophy."

I was playing Asheron's Call...for those who know what I'm talking about...and was trying to come up with a cool name.

Zaifa was what I came up with...don't ask how...I just did...it might not sound cool...but I like it anyway.

Zai...has been my online gaming name ever since.

I used to be in a band with a singer from Surrey and we would do Monty Python skits for fun all the time. One of our favorites was Anne Elk's Brontosaurus Theory. Then one day we were in San Francisco and there was a restaurant menu outside on the wall that said "Squids". So, I turned to my friend and said in Anne Elk's voice "Ehem! Squids." That was the beginning of the end. :D

When I was in college, I started working out. I'm really thin so I got "cut" pretty quick and my buddies said I was chiseling my body and nicknamed me Chisel. When I had to come up with a composing alias, it stuck because I also chisel sounds when using synthesizers :D

Peace Out \/

I was heavily influenced by the ecology movment in the 70's and a lot of the liberal thought of that day. Some friends of mine and I who were influenced by such books as The Secret Live of Plants, The Magic of Findhorn, Carlos Casteneda, Walden, A Sand County Almnac, and Mother Earth News, purchased some property to live closer to the earth, which we named Harmony Gardens. I named my music company Harmony Garden Productions.

Over time, as peoples interests changed, I was able to buy my partners out, little by little, until a divorce finally forced the sale. My nick pays tribute to that period of my life, and I now live in a small town. It also is a small statement that harmony in a musical sence, can bring harmony in global sence. Rather pretentious idea, I know, but I was young once... LOL.
