Hey, sorry i dont know ANYTHING about Pro Tools except that its damn expensive, but my friends goto college for Music Technology and they all tell me about it. I Tell them that im waiting for Amplitube 2 cause i think it will be great so they start telling me about Pro Tools plugins called SansAmp and Line6's Amp Farm and they sound amazing, great amp models and everything. These plugins are fairly expensive (at least Sansamp is i dontk now about Amp Farm) but if they're this amazing i mean i'd probably pay for em. But obviously Pro Tools is SOO damn expensive. I was just wondering if there is another way to play these. Like Chainer is for VST's is there a way i can play these plugins live just like VST? Probably not but i thought it would be worth a ask sence these plugins sound so amazing. anything you guys know about this please let me know or maybe if there not that great let me know too lol that would suck to pay for em and they turn out not tobe very good lol. but i wont worry about it if Pro Tools is required cause i dont got that kinda money right now lol. So anyway, any help will be great thanks!

To make it short - no.

you'll need ProTools HD to use Amp Farm or ProTools LE for SansAmp...

Does he mean he wants to use the RTAS/HTDM plugins elsewhere (other than within ProTools)?

Short answer I think is a NO but I am not sure.

yea Jantzen thats what i ment, and i didnt figure you could, oh well. Thanks for the help guys.

AmpFarm is TDM only = no way to use without ProTools hardware. It sounds pretty nice and was impressive when it was new 6 years ago. It sounds a lot like a Pod.

SansAmp has an RTAS version = you can use with ProTools software. It sounds... rather like a SansAmp. BUT - you can't run ProTools software without ProTools (or M-audio) hardware.

Don't listen too deep to guys in recording school, they get introduced to new gear and think it is the holy grail without even *using* the stuff yet.

there is plenty of plugin options they cannot run in ProTools and many equivalent plugins that you can run anywhere (GuitarRig, Amplitube like you mention).

All considered nothing yet touches a good guitar amp and cabinet.. the digital domain isn't quite as nice for adding huge amounts of gain, and while all of them can sound adequate, an A-B comparison between a good amp/cab and any of these plugins yields the lifelessness.

Yea i really understand what you mean. I have a shitty little Crate practice amp right now, and im getting ready to buy my first stack, wich is why i love computer software so much, because it makes me able to have good sounds threw my little amp. But ive also noticed that no matter what i cant seem to get a sound like when i play threw my Digitech Grunge distortion pedal its a pretty good pedal and no matter what software i use its not quite as good as the hardware pedals and stuff. So yea hardware is definatly better but software is still fun to play with and recording obviously it helps haha i dont do alot of recording just yet though i just like playing my guitar. Anywayz thanks for the help guys yet again you helped me out haha
