ST2 can import the formats Akai, SampleCell, AIFF, WAV und SDII.
Does someone know what SDII is?
Are we, by any chance gonna have import of soundfonts with version 2.1? I still got 2 CDs full of soundfonts from my Creative Pack CD, some of it usuable...

Good questions tele. Sound font import would be a great addition to Sampletank! I'd like to see Giga import also. Then I could dump V Sampler. Then again, I also have been clammoring for SFZ translation of the Sonik Capsules, so I could run those sounds in Dimension. Man,,,, we sure are a fickle bunch, huh??? lol
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need a Mac to import Sample cell sounds.
Not to take over your thread, but has anyone used Chicken Systems? I'm thinking about getting that, but I like to buy new sounds, rather than translators,, lol.

I'd really like to see SampleTank become a full-fledged sample importer. The only reason I was ever disappointed that I bought SampleTank 2XL was because I wouldn't be able to import other libraries (free or commercial).
Really, that's the only big problem with ST2. It's a great engine - perfect for someone who likes to both use easy presets and make cool sounds but doesn't really want to do any recording and mapping themselves. But it can't import all these different formats that other sampling engines can - that's its only weakpoint.
Here's hoping that ST2.1 makes some progress in this regard

Until ST2 gets there here's how I get it done. Go to Chickensys.com and download translater free. You can convert 1 soundfont a time. I've found it doesn't handle layers very so I've moved on to Extremesample converter which does a great job all around. Download the demo and check it out. Nice App!

Great idea, but not for me. I got Halion and will import it there for the time being. But it would be nice to have them in ST2, so I can have it all in 1 interface and apply stretch.Chrisma wrote:Until ST2 gets there here's how I get it done. I assume thats not the strategy (market focus) of Sampletank. It's focus seems to be more on a rich choice of sounds right from the start. It has tons of sounds compared to - let's take Halion.Rellik wrote:I'd really like to see SampleTank become a full-fledged sample importer. Sampletank has always a rompler, rather than a sampler. It's more based on a software version of a workstation. It came with a library of sounds in it's native format, and Sonik Synth 1 was a specialized product that they developed with Squids. There were also other sound providers. Squids started developing sounds for them and when Sonik Synth 2 came out, the doors flew open. Since he's been teaming up with IK, the quality and quanity of sounds has increased dramatically. It's very much an evolution over the last year. I don't think we've seen the end of it by any means, and I doubt Squids even knows for certain how things will develope. Sonik Reality is Squid's company, and he does sounds. He also does his Reason sets. Basically,we are dealing with two separate companies which work closely together. IK is based in Italy, and Sonik Reality is based in the US. This doesn't mean we can't hope that Sampletank increases it's import formats, but if you really want to make a request, that should be addressed directly to IK support.

But harmony gardens, there's no real place to discuss this sort of thing
IK doesn't have a forum! For just discussing and having ideas, I was under the impression that this forum was kind of the de facto IK station, since Sonic Reality works so closely with IK.
For feature requests and bug reports and such, I agree that you need to go directly to IK, and not use this forum as an IK forum in that sense... too bad IK has no forum
I hope marketing/business doesn't get in the way of SampleTank's growth. At first it seemed to me that IK wouldn't want SampleTank to be able to import other sound formats because then Sonic Reality would be in competition with other sample providers - and that's probably exactly the case
but stuff like Philharmonik and Sonik Synth 2 don't really need to be ST2 exclusive to be viable - people who aren't even locked into the SampleTank format are excited about them! So I don't really see where the competition comes into play...

Relik's right. This forum is a great place to discuss IK and SR gear. That's why we're all here!
Even though there's no dedicated IK forum, IK still want to hear from you. In fact, there's a page set up on the sampletank website for suggestions:
http://www.sampletank.com/STSuggestion.html
If enough people request a feature, then it'll go on the priority list for the next update. I have no doubt that most of the new 2.1 features were popular requests.
Forever,
Kim.

I'm not locked into SampleTank, I'm hooked on SR sounds! I want all my SR eggs in one basket, and for now that's SampleTank.
I trust in Squids to keep my favorite sounds going strong!
Thats the only reason I'm haning around...

oh dear,,, I didn't mean to imply we couldn't talk about it, sorry if it came across that way. I only meant that if we want action, it needs to be taken to IK.

If it imported a wider range of formats, SampleTank would be unstoppable. But IK doesn't seem to have much interest in this, even though so many people want it.

What are the big names out there...GIGA and Kontakt are 2 that I hear about the most.... I don't like spending money on buying a hugh library and ended up not using it at all. Sometimes I am way too crazy when it comes to sounds...I want them ALL...and that's impossible. And sometimes I find myself looking for a sound rather than playing.
I'm still waiting for my ST2 and SS2 to arrive...can't wait...going to work has been a drag! :p
