ST2: Fixing volume for MIDI fader

In the demo, when I change the volume of a voice in a combi patch, the volume of the other voices change uniformly with it. If I want say a lead at 100 volume and a flute at 80 volume, I want volume to increase 20 for each if I slide my master volume fader up 20 units. For example, 120 and 100 as opposed to the flute jumping up to 120.
Is this not possible? It's a real blow to any combi patch if so.

It's possible. It's actually due to the MIDI spec that all the volumes are changing together - because they're all responding to the same CC on the same MIDI channel. To adjust them independently using MIDI, you can assign a different MIDI controller for each instrument's volume. That way you'll have independent control for each layer.
Another way to do it is to adjust the relative level of each layer without using the main volume (use an effect, or use the "level" parameter on the amplitude envelope).
Hope that helps.

Kim.

That's a good tip, but I was really looking to change all volumes at once. It can be tough doing them one at time with many layers. I understand the MIDI constraints though :/
The solution would be setting one layer as master and having each other layer set to be +/-n volume of the master layer. Maybe a dev can take that to heart, wouldn't be tough
Though I guess setting the amplitude of each layer would work as well
Don't know how I didn't think of that one heh...

Follow these steps:
1) Set the volume of all layers to be numerically the same.
2) Use an effect or the "level" parameter (on the amplitude envelope) to set the relative levels of each layer.
3) Use MIDI volume (CC 7) to adjust the overall level of your combi, and relative levels should remain intact.
Hope that helps.
