Hey everyone,
I'm back with what I hope is not a totally ignorant question. I'm using HSXL, Kontakt and Battery with various softsynths. I generally use samples from vinyl, mainly loops, in most of my songs. My question is, based on the sequencer and samplers I'm using, is there any way to take a one bar piano loop and make it play slightly up or down on the scale without affecting the speed. I believe that this is what the tone machine is supposed to do in Kontakt, but it tends to dirty the loop. I don't want it to change keys from c major to something else, I just want it to play as notes higher or lower on the scale it was originally played on without changing the bpm. Basically I want the same loop to sound a couple of different ways to give it variation in the song. Could I do something to it in Cakewalk like change the root note or something, or do that in the samplers? Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
aIm

Take a look at Leafprog's Rephrase

Maybe this is more of what are you looking for but I think it's a versatile plugin

This is what Acid excelled in; shift the pitch without much artefacts.
Shifting the pitch without any artefacts is only possible if you re-record it as a midi clip instead of audio.

You can slice your loop and pitch individual slices, while playing slices at the same tempo. Problem is that if you slow down the tempo, there will be a gap between the slices, so you will have to stretch them (it will add artifacts, but as you will not have to stretch them much it should not be hearable) or to add effect to add length to slices. If tempo is accelerated, slices will be cut too early, you can also stretch them to shorten them, or just let them recover themselves if it is not a problem

Rephrase automatically stretches notes to the correct length to match the tempo in your host. This can be very transparent for small to medium tempo changes.
