I have a ton of samples for everything so i usualy have to play with stuff until it sounds right,
But I'm looking for something killer right from the start, Radio Ready Drum sounds(KICKS, Claps, Snares, High-Hats, Cymbals, Crashes, Salt and Pepper Effects, Precussion)
I have heard some of the VIP samples, they're ok, but what else should I be checking out. I know about Attack, Battery, Reason. I want high quality samples, but not Giga Sampler(too expensive).
I'll be using the samples within Ableton Live 4

This is the best 100 bux i ever spent
http://www.vengeance-sound.de/eng/DetailsVEC1.html
vengeance essential club sounds. the link to buy it is on that page, but listen to the mp3 demo, it was made entirely with the sample cd. Best techno/trance drums and most complete collection ever. VERY effective

I've said it many times before: Dance Mega Drums 2 and if you want a bit less processed samples then try Dance Mega Drums 1. They both have something like 4000-5000 samples each and they all are of excellent quality.

Of Dance Mega Drums? I don't know. Probably not. Try google, but don't hold your breath.
I can pretty much quarantee that if you buy either one (especially the first edition of it), you won't regret it a second. The first Dance Mega Drums has unprocessed drum machine samples sampled with extremely good quality. The sample collection is old, but they've had really good AD converters in use when doing that collection
Awesome stuff. It also has LOTS of drum kits from drum machines like:
808
909
Alesis HR16
Alesis SR16
Akai XE-8
Casio RZ-1
EMU SP-12
Farfisa Prof
Kawai R50E
Linndrum 2
Yamaha RY-30
etc.
etc...
...and LOTS more and LOTS of samples grouped into specific folders like: snares, shakers, hihats, bassdrums, etc... Try it
EDIT: The only downside is that the CD is in Akai format, but you can use a demo version of CDxtract to rip them as WAV files on your harddrive...

Dance Megadrums I and II are rather nice indeed for the cleaner, unprocessed material. Doru Malaia's Superdrums 8000 has been praised a lot here on KVR.
However, genre-oriented products might be more up your alley, as both the selection of sounds and their processing gives you a headstart.
Things worth checking out:
Ueberschall House essentials (highly recommended, probably the best value for the money)
Ueberschall House musique (plenty of good material too, a few kicks even better than on House essentials)
Vengeance Sound's Essential club sounds (mentioned before)
Ueberschall Houseworx
(Ueberschall seems to get things right
)
eLab Nu directions - the phuture sound of house
Also worth trying
Wired - the elements of trance (mentioned earlier)
Ueberschall - Techno & trance essentials
Future trance anthems
Xtreme house 1 and 2 (loops and good individual hits)
No kick 1 and 2 (loops and a small pile of good hits)
As these come from memory, can't recall manufacturers for each and every product.

JMH

A small correction:jmh wrote:Dance Megadrums I and II are rather nice indeed for the cleaner, unprocessed material. Doru Malaia's Superdrums 8000 has been praised a lot here on KVR.
Dance Megadrums I has only unprocessed samples.
Dance Megadrums II has mostly processed samples, ready to be put on your track to get that "final sound". Ofcourse in reality this isn't quite that simple, since a little bit of compression on the drum submix will usually tie those sounds nicely together.

Oh, my bad
Talking out of memory. Which isn't getting better now that it's finally nearly summer here and all sorts of home gardeners are coming up with fresh crops...

make sure you buy the akai version of this - i own the .wav version and it only had around 300-400 samples (but they were a fairly usuable 300-400 samples and even with all of the other sample CDs and drum synths I own, I still use these samples in almost every popular music track I have ever put out (they aren't just for dance music, there's plenty of great drum hits for constructing hiphop, drum n bass or for programming background loops for rock oriented tracks).Kraku wrote:I've said it many times before: Dance Mega Drums 2 and if you want a bit less processed samples then try Dance Mega Drums 1. I also Have Dance Mega Drum Kits but I find it a lot less usuable because it's really just a collection of about 5000 recycled samples from Loops on other Best Services sample CDs. There are plenty of repeated sounds, many of the hits are often cut way too short (as is what happens when you use recycle) and they are not organized into drum catagories (like Bass Drum and Snare Drum etc.) as they are on Dance Mega Drums 2.
