in Computer Music magazine they gave away a free version of the FL Vocoder with just slight limitations. maybe you can find it, onñy for 5 euros...

Post

4ormulator, wich is quite good ihmo

Post

The free Voyager synth has a built in vocoder :D
Look at the news section for more info...

EVM Syncoder: Many built in carrier waves to choose from. Able to choose between 8,16, and 32 bands. Filter and osc section. lfo section. Frequency tracking options. High and low octaves. Makes robotic voices nicely but can also do creepy otherwordly drone-ish results as well as breathy/wind talking. It is a vsti and not a fx though. Check it outhttp://www.kvraudio.com/get/1614.html

Cheers

Please enumerate what is not good about them, then.

Ok, then I'll enumerate it for you...

Code: Select all

enum
{
    kHasNoSoundGeneratorInbuilt,
    kSoundsVeryGrainy,
    kIsCumbersomeToUse,
    kHasNoGUI,
    kIsQuiteOld,
    // ...
};
(the enum is quite large extendable).

HasNoSoundGeneratorInbuilt

So not limited by an inbuilt source. Good.

SoundsVeryGrainy

No, not bad at all, for normal vocoding.

IsCumbersomeToUse

Define cumbersome in comparison to any other vocoder.

HasNoGUI

It doesnt need one. But if you want one, wrap it with SE, like Vokko does.

IsQuiteOld

So you're saying that something that's not new is automatically no good?

I love the sounds from 4ormulator. Unfortunately it's a CPU hog (30% in my Athlon 2600+XP) :shrug: .
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Not exactly to the point, as it's more an information-site on vocoders (hardware too), but with useful links to free software-vocoders too

http://www.stoffelshome.de/vocoder/vocoder_daten.html

I like the 4ormulator too, freeware-version is with limited possibilities, but fine and doesn't end after 30 days or gives you noise into your ears. (I got the "pro"-version as it's fun after a while).

The hog vocoder is a very basic but funny standalone-thingie which I like,

http://music.calarts.edu/~bcassidy/hog/

At least you might have a look, there are some other functions in the software, if I remember right. Not updated since quite a while though.
Then I had some zerius - vocoder, standalone too. Maybe it's all in the links of the first site I mentioned (texts in german though)

Dear Whyterrabbyt,

You probably never used it, because then you actually would recognize, that you talk rubbish.
Try it and you could see it yourselfes (i would not continue a discussion with you for obvious reasons - you got not a little clue of the things you are talking about...).

thanks for the replies, tried a few of them, but actually getting best results from cubase's native one, which i think may actually be the mda one repackaged?!

i want classic thick dirty robot sound btw!

will try some more of those suggested.

I have used 'it', although you dont even seem to know that 'it' is actually two different plugins. Ive been using them for several years, because they were one of the few free vocoders you could get hold of.

But perhaps you'd like to state exactly which of the statements I mad was 'rubbish'. Oh no, wait, its your usual bullshit where everything anyone says except you is somehow invalid because you claim to be the only person who knows anything about anything.

Funnily enough, though, its actually up to the original poster to decide wther or not a plugn is 'good', for the purpose they want it for. You don't have a f**king clue, you just want to play your usual 'I know best' wanker games, and then bleat when anyone disagrees.

Try it and you could see it yourselfes

I have tried them which you obviously haven't, othewise you would know there are two of them.

(i would not continue a discussion with you for obvious reasons - you got not a little clue of the things you are talking about...).

Good. Im glad you're not continuing, because you're just talking shite to try and inflate your own ego again, and as usual you just turn into the usual pathetic troll when asked to actually give some kind of rationale for your opinion.
