Good external soft editor for "old" synth?

Hey guys,
I have a Sequential Circuits Six Track, made in 1985 (one of the first MIDI synths). It sounds great with Curtis chips but the downside is it only has ten key pad and one knob editing and I'd like to get into it and edit it more easily.
What would be a good all purpose soft editor that might do this and if there is any freeware or cheapware that would accomplish it I'd be interested.
Thanks much,
Dave

is there an e-magic sound diver preset for that synth? Personally, I always used to loathe using sound diver but I haven't used it in over 5 or 6 years. Maybe it's better now (that is if they still make it)

What sequencer are you using.
I've got a six-trak. The thing about 'em is that the first 35 cc numbers control all the parameters. It's not a question of sysex at all.
Some sequencers allow you to create editors.
For a sixtrak somethink like soundiver is prolly overkill.

Hey, on a side note, have you ever dealt with Wine Country? I actually have a second 6Track that I bought without asking enough questions from eBay. It was advertised as being in mint condition (which it was---looks like it came from a museum and still in box), but I switched it on and it just did weird noises with no control over parameters. I couldn't really return it because the guy who sold it didn't know anyhting about synths and didn't actually say it worked electronically.Notron User wrote:What sequencer are you using.

Anyway, I emailed WC about it and they said they could help, but needed the serial number. I got back to them with that and a detailed description of the problem and they never answered another email from me, in spite of several attempts.
I'm willing to buy what's needed to fix it, but I have no idea how to figure out the problem. As I recall, you just get a kind of detuned rising pitch out of it when you hit a key, same on all patches.
Do you think it could be a dying battery or does it sound like bad firmware to you?
I appreciate your advice,
Dave

I wish I could be of more help with the Six~Trak, but I haven't had many problems with mine and couldn't even begin to troubleshoot.
Have you tried the analog heaven archives or current list?
There's a lot of knowledgeable people there.
My only experience with Wine Country was ordering a Six~Trak survival kit from them.

Thanks for the tip. It would probably be as simple as a current OS chip, maybe even just a new battery.Notron User wrote:I wish I could be of more help with the Six~Trak, but I haven't had many problems with mine and couldn't even begin to troubleshoot.

I'll look into the site you suggested and try describing the problem. It's frustrating WC wouldn't talk to me by email since I'm not even sure they are around to answer calls.

Well, if the softwares too 'rich for your blood' - Bill Bruford took all the King Crimson money, or you're still paying off Eno for stealing his tape delay idea?Frippertronix wrote: BTW, did it ever occur to you that maybe I am Robert Fripp?
Just buy it and be happy will ya?

Actually, no, I drained all my funds paying to tote around that oddball "Ovation Guitar Army" on a couple of ill-selling tours. That and Adrian Belew keeps borrowing guitars from me and warping the necks!Steven West wrote:Well, if the softwares too 'rich for your blood' - Bill Bruford took all the King Crimson money, or you're still paying off Eno for stealing his tape delay idea?Frippertronix wrote: BTW, did it ever occur to you that maybe I am Robert Fripp?
