I bought some drum samples from acidfanatic, and most of them don't say what BPM they are. Is there any software that will play them and tell me the tempo? Hopefully free. Thanks MC.

Acid can deal with loops of any tempo, aint that nice :hihi:

does your sample player tell you the length in seconds? Can you count how many beats there are in the loop? Then you can calculate the bpm:

Suppose the loop is 1.836 secs long and has 4 beats. You wanna know BPM: how many beats in a minute, which happens to be 60 seconds long.
60 / 1.836 = 32.68 (the loop plays 32 and-a-bit times to fill a minute) * 4 (beats in each loop) = 130.7 bpm

Yeah I guess that would work but.... for instance last night I was using the step sequencer in Crystal synth. I had a drum loop wav that said 120 bpm and I needed to match the tempo with the step sequencer. I found out by trial and error that 250ms matched the 120bpm loop. I'm new to this so I'm sure I'm doing it the hard way. Sample player? I am listening to the sample with WMP7.1.Doesnt tell me anything. Thanks,MC

250 ms sounds more like one single drum hit (cut off a vinyl track maybe) than a rhythmic loop. Well, it could be a basic hihat pattern ofcourse...

Anyway, why don't you go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net and try out that sample editor for free??

250 ms matches the 120 bpm loop because 250 ms is a quarter of a second, which is the length of an eighth note at 120 bpm.

if you are using DP, just drop them on an audio track, and they will automatically be set to any tempo your song is set to. Way cool.

they have a tap tempo calculator where you tap the spacebar along with the sample and it tells you the tempo that you're typing. and its free.

For the lazier (like me) you can use this to batch analyse your samples.
