Anything like Reaktor's Vectory as a VST?

I'm trying to find something to get those neat sequenced granular sounds. I have tried a number of plugs, but can't quite get it right.

Here are the plugs I have tried:
ioplong fitchsplifter (sp?) , Bufferoveride, arcdev, cyclotron and other arcdev grain delay devices, Tweakbench mashup / sideslip / breakdown, etc., GRM tools freeze / delays / etc...

The tweakbench stuff seemed to be the closest i could get.

BTW - i absolutely can't afford Reaktor (unless anybody wants to buy a very limited edition cdr of my music for $600 or so... ) and am not interested in stealing it.

Perhaps, I am just missing the technique behind it. I am not trying to duplicate any particular style of music (although, there are only so many ways granular crap can be used), but am just looking for that little extra bit of control to the chaos...

Any suggestions are dually appreciated

Cheers
Kelly

(disclaimer - I made it)
Lucifer 1.5 VST does some similar things as a VST FX. Try the Microspread ( <--> ) knob and faster (higher) MIDI black-key repeats, with or without INCARN mode enabled.

Please feel free to send me any comments as well, I'm starting to think about Lucifer 2.0 (which will be a free update someday).

Lucifer sounds interesting (and looks neat too). i think I had read a bit about it around here before, but didn't realise what sort of stuff it did, so never pursued the info.

I'll download the demo and give it a spin this weekend.

Thanks for the tip Steve.

Hey Kelly,

I'm not sure how the granular stuff works in Vectory, but if you are looking to do sequenced granulation of samples, check out Subminimal's pseudograins.

If you want to resequencing of input, check out ioplong's splonki. It doesn't have fine granularity, 32nds is all you get, and I don't think there is sublooping. Works on a buffer, so there's added delay, but can do some great stuff. Lucifer is also a nice choice. For straightforward delay-line granular, check out Heizenbox.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve

Coincidentally, I just found Psuedograins via a google search. I will give that one a go as well.

Maybe I should also dig more into the DH granulator SE stuff. Perhaps I could build my own...

I haven't heard of this ensemble called Vectory Is that the right spelling? - I did a search in the user library and came up blank.

It's in the new R5 library.

Vectory can be found in the new additions/Sample Transformer folder in R5

Yeah, i think the biggest discrepancy between existing effects and the Vectory ensemble are the lack of stepped controls.

I suppose i could use automation to conrol parameters on most of them, but like to have it right at my fingertips on the effect itself...

Perhaps I will also re-visit cyclotron. I didn't notice that you could use midi to repitch grains either.

Ah - I only got it last week and haven't had time to do much more than install it even yet - too many new synths to play with at the moment

Tell me about it... I bought it but my processor is non-SSE, so I won't be using it until I get a new computer, which won't be before next year. :(

Well, the good news is that'll be just in time for the v6 upgrade. :P

I would think you could find an older SSE CPU compatible with your motherboard for fairly cheap. Any shop selling older stock, surplus, or wholesale should have one kicking around. Probably set you back less than $40.
