:help:
Please help I'm looking for the best TR909 sounds around for making trance music.I looked at the Jomox909 drumsynth but not sure where to buy one in the uk?Also I do not have much money for hardware at this moment so is there any really good sample cds out there with quality 909 samples?Heard that Wizoo Platinum24 Electronic Drums has good 909 samples.

If you know of any other good suggestions as to where I can get good TR909 sounds please let me know.

Much appreciated to all who reply

Darren

no 303? or a virus??
virtually any sample CD these days include a set of the 909 drums..but they are dated sounding...totally overused since the last 15 years and really not all that...get a modern sounding drumsynth (like the free Drumatic3 maybe?) that can do 909 type sounds with ease and more!!!

you can find a jomox 909 on ebay if you want hardware. The Roland MV-8000 has been said recently to have the best 909 sounds since its a directly programmed from Roland into the machine. The other thing you could do is just wait for the new Jomox release coming December but music doesnt sleep for anyone.
Please dont bite me.

Rebirth.

Remember however that there hasn't been a trance record that uses pure 909s in years.

Thanks your your replies guys/girls.I will look at Drumatic3.Is there anywhere I can download drumatic3 drum banks from?Iwill also look at the Roland MV-8000 hardware. Not keen on Rebirth because it looks very hard to get my head around using since I've been with Cubase for years. The new Jomox box sounds interesting, might save my money for one of those. Cheers Darren

Thats quite an assumption

Just listen to any M.I.K.E. (Push) Production. He uses real 909's almost exclusively for his drums.

RMIV Has got some nice 909 kits and can modulate the samples to give that real 909 feel (or very close to it).

Samples will give you a taste of the '909' sound but when you compare it to the real thing you'll see just why the real TR's are so sought after.

I got one, had it for years and will probably never let it go.

He is true to a large extent, there hasn't been a trance production that was soley produced with a 909 in quite a long time. A few artists still use it, Mike as you mentioned has made the 909 quite a popular arsenal in his studio. Ferry Corsten also still uses it from time to time, for drums moreso than anything.

On the flip side, I'd also be interested in some uber high quality 909 samples :)

The big difference with a real 909 and sampled 909, atleast to me, is during snare rolls, they just seem more lively with a real 909, listen to some circa 2000 trance records and you'll hear the difference!

If you hear a "909" in a 4/floor dance record now a days, chances are it's either several 909s layered, 909s layered with something more subtle, or 909s distorted and/or enhanced somehow.

It's virtually impossible to get that contemporary "thud" with 1 modulated harmonic.

If I want something that sounds like a raw 909 but with contemporary dynamic and frequency balance, I'll program a couple lowfrequency modulated sinewaves to act as subharmonics, layer with a 909, then compress/eq.

The kick sounds so much better with just some tasteful EQ - forget the "obligatory" compression everybody is force feeding to be used everywhere - of course it doesn't hurt.

Listen to Underworld for some tasteful, full, rounded, clean 909 kicks...

Ain't selling my 909, never, ever.

Would you be interested in making a velocity sensitive 909 snare kit? Sampled snares rolls are just so lifeless!

Softsynth-wise you should check out e-phonic's Drumatic VE which uses sampled 808 and 909 waveforms for its synthesis. Likewise for odo's DR-Fusion. Both are nice drumsynths.
