So I finally got an MP3 player instead of sticking with my NetMD (anyone need an MD for field recordings, btw? ;) ), and it can handle MP3 or WMA. Now, I wish it could do OGG (can it? Is there something I don't know about?) but in the meantime I have to choose between the two formats.

Is there any compelling reason to use one over the other? I already archive my CDs as 500kps OGG files, so I've done the "ripping" already-- it'll be the same number of steps to go to either format. Since neither are open source or "the little guys", I'm not too concerned about socio-political implications. ;) I just want file size and sound quality info.

I'm sure there are lots of web resources telling me the info, but I'd rather hear it from you guys from your personal experiences and knowledge.

Cheers for any info,
Greg

*bump*

Either of them less of a hassle for DRM?

Another question-- since the portable came with Musicmatch AND Nero, I assume they both have MP3 encoding licenses. Anybody know how to get those codecs to appear in dbPowerAmp?

all i can add is that a friend of mine sold his sony-non-mp3-but-at-least-atrac3-player because a) mp3s wouldn't play on the sony and b) atracs wouldn't play on his desktop pc. and he disliked the solution too have each song twice either or convert each time he sends files to the sony thing.

you can expect less hassle with DRM when deciding for mp3, because there is no DRM for mp3s afaik ;)
