Why so many bad artists/songs at HMV/Virgin/Towers?

I walk in and hear this bubble gum shit that some chick who stood in line for 18hours for an American Idol audition is now getting paid millions for her determination... And there's the little f**kers buying her CD's right now! GET AWAY FROM THOSE CD'S YOU LITTLE SAWED OFF RUNTS! :x

And since when did 'Imports' become 'Best Of'? Oh well, Debbie Harry is still sexier on the covers than Shania Twang - you got my $39.99... DAMN YOU HMV! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL! :tantrum:

Or maybe I just have shite taste?

ahh steven thanx for the laugh...you are so right
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

It sure is the truth. If radio and commercial music was my only source of music I think I would have absolutely no interest in music.

I haven't gone into HMV in almost a year. It feels like hell in there, the selection has gotten worse almost every day of the last ten years, and this may be restricited to the main Toronto store, but they move everything around pretty much every 3 months, usually to make room for more DVDs, so you can't find anything where you expect it to be.

Mr. West, just order from Amazon. You get want you want, it's cheaper, and you don't have to listen to Papa Roach while you're shopping.

our hmv actually has a great soundtracks/scores and a spoken word section
also some of the recent sales have been good for replacing old vinyl on cd hehe

I actually do like all the ol' record stores myself as well. ;) But I must admit, everytime I walk into one these days - they do make me feel older each time. ;)

But hey, if they can sell it - and people want to buy it... Who am I to complain? And in the midst of the burgeoning threat by the internet in scope and delivery - I actually have to tip my hat to the record stores for being still competitive and intimidating to make me want to find and buy something. :hihi:

God bless them all! :harp:

actually, from what i understand amazon.ca is a coalition between HMV and amazon in order to sell cds and dvds

there is a virgin records here in vancouver. i actually believe the experience in the store is contrary to what this thread suggests. they seem to have a dedication to bringing in cool music into their stores, with djs playing the latest and greatest electronic music on the PA. yes, it is expensive, but labels like ninjatune and warp are expensive to get cds from. they are small labels and it costs them a lot to distribute music. but you can find all that great stuff in virgin records, no doubt

HMV is kind of weak i agree

If there is one thing I hate is asking someone to help me find something or look for something myself at Virgin or whatever.

I can go online and listen to radio. I'm too lazy to look for stuff that's really good because where do I begin? Maybe I've been lisening to electronic music for too long and my taste is too picky, nah..

Its hard to find good original stuff, especially trance.

If radio and tv was the only source of music for me, I'd probably have slit my wrists a long time ago. Long live the internet and all you babes on KvR!

Well, well now Andrew - don't say ALL radio or TV. There are some good 'community radio' that still exist in North America (don't know if you blokes have it in Europe?) And there's a few good stations out there that might have to be brought in off a satellite or digitally. And let's not forget PBS either.

But yes, 'commercial radio and TV'...
I'd recommend a Gillette blade over a Wilkinson anyday. ;)
