Do we have Didjeridoo samples for ST2 in one of the libraries. I thought it would make a nice sound effect for pop tunes.

I've got some coming that use stretch in real time to act like you have the real thing. More news on that soon. There will be a downloadable version too.

good stuff! the only didge sample i know at the moment is in the original Reason soundbank for the nn-19. it's okay but i think one by SR would be better(especially since you say it will use STRETCH)

now THAT is a hard instrument to play. i have a real didge from australia however i could never learn how to circular breath. kim do you play the didge? i'm sure that guy knows a good didge player or two in melbourne.

I've actually got a didgeridoo at home. My uncle gave it to me. I don't know how to play it properly though. :(

ah i knew it kim

i think jamiroquai brought that sound back. i dont know if any older groups were using the didge much?

there's this guy here in vancouver who hangs out outside of concerts when they are finished. you pay him money and sit in this chair and he plays the didge for you while his assistant rubs your head with this metal head massager. i dont think that would be very relaxing considering you're in the middle of a huge downtown crowd and having your head rubbed by a lice machine :-o

one of the world's most boring instruments. a one-trick, one-note pony. there is also the aspect of cultural piracy which, although you could argue this for any instrument, australian aboriginals seem specially sensitive to such things...

I disagree - it is not boring at all - it is fascinating.
We just had the reopening party of our town's central train station. There was a stage with 2 people playing the didji - darn cool performance. But it was a matter of taste, which is true for any style of music.

And I surely will not refain using it because some australian aboriginals are "specially sensitive to such things". It's a worldwide public heritage.

Come on. That's like: I don't play Beatles songs because Paul McCartney doesn't like others to sing the songs.
Or: Since you're not a native from the Alps, you should not use Alp horn samples.

telebunke, couldn't agree more with you. i think it's ridiculous myself, but that's a common feeling as i understand it. also jealously guarded is the "dot style" of painting which again is seen as something with an assumed "ethnic copyright". neither of which can be enforced of course. but i have seen several articles where aboriginals have expressed anger at "imposters" trying to "cash in" on aboriginal culture.

just an interesting sidelight to an ethnic instrument release methoughts.

Well there are plenty of Didge's for sale in Australia, some (like mine) even sold by, gasp, Aborigine's - so even if some are not happy about it, others are. And who get's to be the spokesperson on cultural anyway ? Enjoy your Didge's, and make beautiful music.

I find it horrifying that in this day and age people are still slaughtering alps just to use their horns for music!

Well, there's not 1 single topic in the world where all people agree. Whatever the reasons, it's always me that's 100% right. ;)

Interesting viewpoint. Maybe the french population should get angry with Hollywood, since they mad tons of $$$ with movies about Napoleon.
But you're right. It is an interesting cultural note. Thanks for sharing it.

well, speaking of the french, they managed to reserve the rights to 'champagne', 'burgandy' and 'cognac', which perhaps isn't too dissimilar to the idea of 'ethnic copyright'. but then that was just the names, not an actual product as such.
