Please note a Powerbook/Mac solution is not viable due to purchased software.
Emachines/Alienware etc are a no go in Australia and AMD based laptops of high quality are as rare as hens teeth.
Models I'm looking at are - Vaio - Asus - Acer (prefer the Vaio but I have alot of questions with regards to TurboCache based graphics systems).
I would go for an IBM T42+ series but anything over an oldskool 1.7 Centrino 400mhzFSB and 1meg Cache is way dearer than anything else on the market here in Australia ie: $5000 + (ie: way out of my budget)
Ok Needs - Must be From 1.8 - 2.5 kg's max
Screen 13.3" or larger.
Battery life 3.5+ hours.
4 pin F/W port and 3 USB 2.0 ports essential
CPU - Sonoma / Dothan / Centrino
Must have a 2mg cache and 533mhz FSB
CPU no slower than 1.7ghz
Expandable to 2 gig preferably but 1 gig is ok.
I already have a Lacie F/W audio drive so the internal HD should be at least 5400RPM and 60 gig minimum capacity.
System must be easy to transport / carry etc *This is absolutely eseential.
Any positive experiences with certain makes or models (please specify brand and model no. also and I'll see if they're available in Oz).
Thanks in advance.
Looking for some sage advice here from users with solid experience.
Will be using (on new system).
Audacity - freeware audio editor
Live 4
Reason 3
Project 5 V2
Pluggo
Kubik
Vectrik
Foorius
Karma FX Modular
Digital Fishphones bundle
Smart Electronix Plug's in suite + Native Plugins on all other apps.
Absolutely no other software or apps on this system.
I wan't it for on the go work and for when I'm in hopsital etc...
This will be my only DAW from here on in .
I have stipped back all the apps to what I actually use regularly and that is more than enough to work with.
Beside Reason 3's Combinator rewired + Pluggo is about as close to Reaktor Lite as I'm ever going to be able to afford.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.
