Cakewalk DX fx - I need help - this is driving me nuts...

I installed and uninstalled many Cakewalk sequencers.

Today almost none of my Dx-fx show up. They've become less and less. They just aren't listed anymore. The plugin-manager isn't any help.

If I load a demo-track in P5v2 which uses some of them they get loaded but they just don't show up in the list anymore.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing but that didn't help. I guess the regisrty must have been fmessed up by
the installers but I don't know how to solve it.

does anyone have any idea what can be done?

Do you mean native effects, or wrapped VST effects?

If its the latter, do a full rescan-and-reset of the adaptor. Then it would appear you also need to ensure that the default properties aren't set to make everything a DXi by default, before doing your scan.

If its actually a proper DX effect, you could try reregistering them with regsvr32.exe.

You could do this from the command line ie

regsvr32.exe c:/path/to/directplugin.dll

or another way way would be to add the program regsvr32.exe to your context-menu 'Send To' list, then run it on each effect in turn, by right-clicking and selecting Send To>regsvr32.exe

Modifying Send To'

Using regsvr32.exe

thanks Whyterabbyt... :-)

The problem is with native dx-fx (no problems with dxi though :?)

the problem is that they are already registered but they aren't listed in Cakewalk's sequencers nonetheless. (I tried re-registering a few now just to be sure but that didn't help.) I can access them (as long as they are freely usable) from the VB ffx4 dx-vst-adapter just fine. :?

In that case, I would check that they havent just been excluded from being listed by the host. Install the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager off whichever Sonar disk you've got, and try checking with that...

Have you checked the SONAR plug-in manager (or whatever it's called)? Some plugs might have been set to "excluded", then it would be hidden in SONAR but still can be seen by other apps.

I already tried using the plugin-manager...

I also tried excluding and then including some of them again but that also didn't help.

something seems to be really messed up... :?

Hmmmm. Not sure what else you can do, apart from trying to delete the appropriate registry entries directly.

I guess you could try removing them all with regsvr32 and running a registry cleaner, just in case, but it sounds pretty odd to me.

will try this, thnaks! :-)

and yes, it is pretty odd. What's really strange is that they've become less and less the more Cakewalk sequencers I installed. THe last thing I installed was P5v1 and then at least SpectralTransformer still showed up and I think the other P5 fx as well. But yesterday FedEx delivered P5v2 and since I installed it no P5 fx show up anymore (although they get loaded when a demo-song uses them).

I tried uninstalling P5v1 and then re-installed v2 but that didn't help either. :?

Most odd. My own DAW has had S4P on it, and then the P5 demo, then P5 1, P5 1.5, and finally P5 v2 on it without any such nonsense.

Let me know if you need to know what registry entries to go hunting for...

it would be great if you could give me a hint about what entries to look for! :-D

Post

hey jens, you may want to go to the cakewalk forums for this, the devs may be of some assistance here.

I would have a look around

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/Filter

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/ActiveMovie/devenum/083863F1-70DE-11D0-BD40-00A0C911CE86

This does sound odd.One possibility from left field, the only time I've heard of this before was when I heard that Sonar does have a limit on how many plugs it will show/host and I don't remember the number, but if you have a crap load of plugs installed that might be the problem.Try resetting the VST adapter so none of your VST plugs are active and see if your DX plugs show up.

The plugin limit was raised quite significantly in Sonar2 if I recall....

yes, and it seems high enough now although Iit could have been a possibility considering the number of vst-plugins I got on my drive

I cleaned the registry and the re-installed the fx and that did the trick... :-D

- by doing this I found out that some plugins got about 3-4 entries

thanks to everyone for giving advice and especially to WR for offering the solution! :-D
