Best sounding TR-808/909 Sample cd ?

Hi folks.


I'm looking for some great quality samples of 808/909 drum machines. Ok old news, but...
I know those have been sampled to the bone, but all the kits i have on different cds sound really weak compared to the real boxes.

I'm not expecting samples to sound as good as some analog hardware, but it's been a wonder to me how much of a difference there is between my (so called 'professional') kits and a real tr-x0x.

So i guess there must be at least one cd out there with an overall better sound quality, and i'm seeking for it.


I know a lot of people here will advise me to use drumatic or dr-fusion, ialready have them and they are great, but i want to do some layering in battery, and good samples would be the easy way.

Wizoo is decent, especially the 808. Rebirth also very good, I use the 909 samples all the time.

Infact, Im amazed who few GOOD 808 / 909 samples there are knocking around. Som are truely horrific.

Good ? I noticed a difference in a few 808 kits that came with DR008...I think Wizzo sells a 808 & 909 kit.

dont usually post on here so hello ....definatley rebirth,for a few extra ££ compared to a sample cd,way more manipulation than a sample and you get a 303 as well!! solid and squelchy.what more can u ask for.

for most of my kits, i could make a better 808 bd by sampling myself farting in a bowl.


anyway, i'll have a look at rebirth, but at first sight, it doesn't seem to be a quite flexible solution to me... I guess i'd have to use it in rewire right?
definitely checking out the wizoo cd too.

This seems to be very suspicious to me, as the 808 kit provided is the exact same 808 kit that was put together by Hollowsun ( which used to be free but no longer is ). The names of the folders and sounds are the same, and I just compared 2 of them, and they sound exactly the same.. hmmm.. ( same for the 909 kit ). I wonder if Hollowsun is aware of this, or if they are affiliated with that site perhaps..

I'm working on the best quality and most realistic sample set of a TR-808 for Battery 2. They're gonna be 24 bit/96 Khz. You'll have Rebirth type of functionality where you can just tweak your midi controller knobs and change the sound (select a different sample). Also, through random velocity, it'll select 1 out 5 different samples of the exact same sound sampled 5 different times. It'll kick ass. If there's enough interest I might sell these samples...
