Good distortion for acid basslines?

I was just wondering what some techniques are for getting the best out of a 303 emulation. I really like "tb unknown" just dont like the distortion too much. What are your favorite effects to put on it?

Personally I think soft overdrives work well with that type of sound. QuantumFX has a good one.
BigTick Nastyshaper on low settings works well as a mild distortion/exciter type thingy as well.
If none of those flop your mop, then a cheap solution is a 2nd hand guitar overdrive pedal

Won't name a name... but it's a new plugin (recently released), doesn't look or sound like them SE creations, and is absolutely great for 303 stuff.
You'll have to do the math though, I ain't giving the name directly, it's my little secret

JMH

Yeah, I use amp simulators for it alot. I have tried mdrive because it came with the tau2 demo. That first one looks sweet. Any other effects besides distortion effects I may have overlooked? like flange or anything (probably a bad example but I was trying to make a point.)

A subtle phaser (low feedback) can add a liquid-like motion. It's particularly good if you can set the number of phaser stages to a low number. SampleTank2 and Sonik Synth 2 have a tasty analogue-modelled phaser built in, but there are plenty of choices, some even free! Interesting things happen when you apply the phaser before the distortion/overdrive.

I've found that the reFX CLAW has some crazy distortion. Check out my version of Judas Preist's Breakin' the Law in my site link to hear it drive the song.
I use ODO Bass Station on about 80% of my tracks.
Bass Station in the most under-rated one. It does crash sometimes.

tried yesterday my Poco the Rat with my MAM MB33 - really nice distortion
- i think native Instruments Guitar Rig has an emulation of this distortion-unit so give it a try

I used to use BS for a while because I didn't catch on to tb unknown, I thought it was somehow like the unknown synth that was all rave-like so the name threw me off. One of my favorite tracks of mine uses BS heavily though.SK-1 wrote:I've found that the reFX CLAW has some crazy distortion.
