Anyone know the difference between the amp sims in guitar rig and the amp sims in the Guitar Combos?

Are they the same? Would it be pointless to buy both?

Any problems with guitar rig, such as latency?

Come on people....I need to know before my wife gets home so I can buy, Buy, BUY!!! :hihi:

I think the Combos is for people who can't afford Guitar Rig. The engines are the same from my understanding.

latency could be an issue depending on your setup. One thing that I know of is that it's (of course)entirely computer based.........computer problem.......no "weeeerrr weeeeree" ....know what I mean?

It may not matter, but I opted for the podlivext.....that way I can play even if my computer goes splat. Goes directly to the soundcard (or mixer or whatever) and is not hogging important resources on my computer.

The challenge and response can be really tidious at times with NI...........just thought you should know.........

I own Amplitube and was looking into getting Guitar Rig to replace it, but I'm considering getting an X Vamp because they only cost $70 and I hear they are actually quite good. It wouldn't hurt to take some strain off my CPU.

I thought of the XT (I have two other line6 rack mounts and I love them) but I really can't belive that it get that indepth, sch as mic positions and tweaking effect, and surely the GUI has to be better for this purpose.

Looking at it, it seems GR has more to offer as far as tweaking. Unless I'm worng about this.

I have an Adrenalinn for amp-sims/fx but I'm about to sell it and go for the NI Combos - the FX in Guitar rig look good but to be honest as I aleardy have Ohmforce fx, GR would be overkill. I think the PODs/Adrenalinns etc Are great especially If you're gonna gig. So computers are the future of home recording, right??

I have a PodXT, but am also a big fan of Guitar Rig. I don't think I'd give up my XT because of it's overall good sound, portability, zero latency, good variety of amp models, etc., but Guitar Rig has VERY detailed amp modeling and a lot of options. I must mention that XT has many more amp models and effects available than GR. But all in all, I would say the sound of GR is the best of any amp modeler out there today.

The three Combos are nice to have.

Each one has a different character, and different kinds of fx.

It's v easy to develop your own presets and save them too, which is important as you WILL prefer your own presets when it comes to guitar sounds.

NI could have developed one interface and given 3 switchable options, but that wouldn't have been as pretty as having 3 very different looking amps.

Twang is a clean bright amp that goes in a retro direction if rqd.

Plexi is a hard-case modern bastard.

AC 30 is v nice for less trebly sounds as it has this really useful Brightness Cut knob. This doesn't sound like much but it adds a lot to the character.

All the above have very controllable distortion. And becuase there's three of them, you can take a good bit of time trying out different options, and being really fussy, which is v cool.

(I spent a whole afternoon searching for The Edge, and a good few hours hunting down Andy Summers :D )

With Guitar RIG you get extras which might be worth the large additional spend.

Footswitch - so obviously if you're playing live gigs all the time ...

Brilliant presets - this is preset paradise. Dial a favourite guitarist. Be Hendrix with or without a heated smack spoon.

Loads of FX - nice to have but more of a convenience for the non-gigging player.

On balance, if you have the money and are relatively rich, or you gig, then Guitar Rig is the one.

But if you're studio based, intend to use Combo with samples as well as live playing, and are already comfortable with your existing fx rack, then the extra dosh maybe isn't worth it.

Footnote: Combos have a small screen footprint, while Rig is almost as big as Kontakt.

Footnote: None of them are that good for bass guitar. We need a bass sim - and fast!

Footnote: NI should include Combos in their Rig forum.

the models are the same as the corresponding Guitar Rig amp models.(Since it is possible to export presets from Guitar Combos to Guitar rig)
you can load Combo presets into GR to see exactly which modules are used.

Guitar Rig isn't as good as Amplitube to my ears, and I think Amplitube 2 will absolutely kill it.

I did not like Guitar Rig or the Combos.
For me Amplitube is the one.
I also prefer it over the PODXT.

I would at least wait to see what Amplitube2 will bring, should be out next month.

I am using a Pod XT and after using the demo of NI's fine product, I did not feel the need to switch. with the lastest PodXT up date things are peachy.

The AC30 combo is the most inspiring sound ever. I also found it less buggy than GR. (I was getting weird conflicts with other plugs with GR, but not with the combos).
