Hi, if I have a drum kit inside FLs piano roll, can I send each drum to different FX? Or is this just impossible to happen

it depends on what you are using for the drums...if your drums have multiple outs or if you are using fpc yes...Ahmed wrote:Hi, if I have a drum kit inside FLs piano roll, can I send each drum to different FX? Or is this just impossible to happen![]()

I dont use Battery so I need to ask...does it have mutiple outs? If so put in mixer track 16 or 17 (bank B) it's easier that way imo because for as many outs as you use it uses the tracks for them after the pluggin (battery)...if it has a master out plus indivdual outs put it 16 so bank B is all outputs. In the wrapper on battery in Fl up in the upper left is a triangle with a drop down menu, enable multi-outs...then it will automatically send each out in order after battery in the mixer...then you can apply fx to each output...I use vsampler and 4 outs (I have up to 16) for drums...kicks, snare, cym/hats and toms...hope that helps...Ahmed wrote:I'm using Battery!it depends on what you are using for the drums...if your drums have multiple outs or if you are using fpc yes...

I did it as you explained but I still have the same effect in the mixer applied to the whole instrument(Battery)The whole drum kit is still receiving the same reverb that I inserted in mixer track 16. I need each of the snare/hi hat to receive different fx in the mixer. Ehhmmm I think I'm having difficulty following the general steps accurately. I couldn't get anything usefull from the FL help file. It should be possible, because I'm pretty sure Battery would have a multi out feature. I was trying to figure out how to do the same thing with SR-202 when I stumbled on this tutorial. The person that wrote it was explaining how to set up and use the DS-404 as a multi timbral instrument using FL's Dashboard plugin, but I'm sure you could apply this to Battery. Note, even though the author says this doesn't work with the Midi Out plug in, I'm pretty sure it does. Good Luck:

In Battery 2 you have to make sure that each drum pad has the correct output selected. It's at the bottom right of the instrument. Many kits are not configured to do this, so you have to go through drum pad to select the desired output. like 1-2 for kicks 3-4 for snares etc. It should work fine if you do what Hink says.

okay so tack 16 is your master (all drums) if multi-outs are working properly then 17 through however many outputs you are using will be your drums on their own channel, add the effects there...use the meters or solo each track one at a time to see what drum is on what track (label it and save the set-up as a template).Ahmed wrote:I did it as you explained but I still have the same effect in the mixer applied to the whole instrument(Battery)The whole drum kit is still receiving the same reverb that I inserted in mixer track 16. BTW When rendering, instead of splitting mixer tracks arm each mixer track you are rendering like you would for audio recording (the little orange disk icon in the lower right corner of the mixer) and tell it where to save the file. Make sure you do this for each instrument...you don't have to do it for masters (like track 16 in this case) that way you dont get an extra wav (unless of course you want it). Then instead of rendering the normal way hit "ALT R". Or open the menu in the upper left hand corner of the mixer and go disk recording>render to wave. Also under disk recording is an option to have it automatically send each wave you render to an audio track...it's enabled by default, but you may want to disable it...

And if you're using Battery 1, I think you have to ctrl-click or alt-click the number in the bottom right corner of Battery and insert the number of the output you want the selected pad to use..HanglowSkank wrote:In Battery 2 you have to make sure that each drum pad has the correct output selected. Make sure you enable multiple outs for the VST in FL Studio as well, this is off by default (selected per running instance of any VST).

Ok, things solved
But what did you mean by saying (track 16 is your master)? Don't we have only One master track at the start of banks A, B, C, and D. Also I thought track 16 is just a normal track(unused in this case) !?
And On the Rendering side...
2)Also what's the point of doing so with each instrument?
Thanks alot![/quote]

1) I wonder how is this different from the normal way of exporting a song into .wav file. , and what does arming mean?BTW When rendering, instead of splitting mixer tracks arm each mixer track you are rendering like you would for audio recording (the little orange disk icon in the lower right corner of the mixer) and tell it where to save the file. He means that track 16 could be the Drum Group master. It's just a normal channel like you said. You could select track 1 if you wanted to.
Say you select track 16 for the Battery plugin, and set it up as Hink said. You would have track 17 for kick, track 18 for snare etc. then route all these individual drum tracks these tracks to the Drum Group - Track 16. Now you can apply effects to the whole kit after each of the individual drums have been given their own eq, compression or whatever effect you wish.
You will often want to apply a general gentle compression and maybe a general reverb to the whole kit. If you do it this way then you won't need multiple instances of the same plugins.

You also get more control over naming wavs which works well with my tired old brain. When I make a new copy of a track if I'm sure I wont be using the first one I can overwrite it. That's nice because when I load the song into AA I dont have to remove one track and put in the new one...I do have a normalizing script I run though...
Gol told me about this feature a couple years ago and I've gotten in the habit of rendering that way....
