Voxengo BMS is a bass management system PC VST plug-in for surround sound professionals. BMS is able to extract low frequency content from non-LFE channels in up to 7.1 surround configurations. The main purpose of BMS is to evaluate low frequency content present in non-LFE channels during mastering. At the same time it is possible to mix extracted low frequency signal to the Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel. An option to remove the extracted signal from non-LFE channels is also available.

Cool Aleksey! I might have a stereo use for this also - I'll try it out and see. Thanx

Cool Aleksey. More surround plugins from Voxengo is GREATLY appreciated - I saw there was a discussion on the Voxengo forum as well, and I hope to see more surround stuff in the future... :)

arturmeinild, yeah, I hope so, too. :) Since I've tossed out all developer side of things doing surround in VST I guess implementing more surround plug-ins is only a question of time.

Aleksey ... the one plug I'd welcome is something that performed like Waves Renaissance Bass.

It's not just the math of obtaining artificial frequencies ... Ren Bass is about producing a highly flavoured winning sound.

Since you're such a prolific plug writer I thought I'd mention it

Do you know how this RenBass works?

I mean, probably Voxengo LF-Punch may do the same or better job?

As far as I know RenBass just adds harmonics to the sound (above the fundamental), making deep basses more audible on multimedia speakers, laptops, and other systems that can't reproduce such low frequencies. You can specify a frequency range that the plugin will create harmonics for I think. It may be doing some compression as well. You can mix the harmonics with the original bass, or only use the harmonics.

Here is a link:

It is an improved version of their MaxxBass, which I seem to remember having more parameters to adjust (some compression ones).

I've checked out RBass demo.. Sounds much like a waveshaper to me... The only difference is that it has a 'hysteresis' kind of action which allows to get more even harmonics (standard waveshapers usually generate odd harmonics only).

But I do not see more power in RBass than what LF-Punch has to offer. The sound is different, of course.

RenBass is a very useful tool, simple and often works good with thin bass lines. I'd love to see something with the same idea but a little more smooth (analog if you will) and beautiful to sound. BTW, Crunchessor is the greatest comp I've seen in plug-in domain so far (I'm still searching to make sure I don't miss anthing, tho) - well done Alexey! Think I'm gonna be your customer soon.

I haven't tried LF Punch. Maybe I should.

But the point of Ren Bass is its signature sound.

Across a whole mix it can sound great.

Obviously, this isn't the same as simply comparing specs between plugs, as we're talking flavour and hallmark, rather than numbers or harmonics.

Anyhow, it was only meant as a suggestion. Perhaps it was out of place in a surround sound plug thread.

But all the same I'd pay $50 for a RenBass sound-alike.

But it distorts the lows like mad. LF-Punch, for example, distorts for the sake of punch (and for the sake of a good 'cone flap') - bass body is distorted in much less amounts.

Mmm ... it distorts.

I guess you'd call it a signature sound 8)
