Ok, I'm curious.. how many keyboards to most people have set up in their studio? I'm about to put a PCR-80 controller keyboard in along with my Fantom X6 and I wonder how unique I am in needing more than the one...

sadly, i chose the 'more than 6, just for show' option.
the only reason i didnt choose the 'more than 6 and i use them all' option is because im really not using my hardware synths these days. however, they were bought during a time when i was, and i do intend to get back into using them again some day.
the only one that currently sees regular use out of me now is my technics WSA1, but thats mainly because its my master controller.
what would have suited me better would have been the option of 'more than 6, not using them much these days, but i will again someday...honest!'
edit: at least i can say that my basses and guitars are getting used a lot again. (i took a few years off from them too...when i got into hardware synths.)

Two pianos, a Sohmer grand and a Sohmer upright. Love them more than I love my dog. Hammond M-100.
Yamaha P80. Still the only synth piano I can stand.
Alesis QS6.1, used for organs and leads. I use it's built-in sounds and it's a great controller.
Roland XP80. By far the best controller I've ever had my hands on. Have no intention of parting with it. I only take one board out with me, and this is the one.
Keystation 61es. Nice portable board, actually, bought it for use on long business trips and so on. Oxygen8. Bought it for short trips, but still too big to really carry on airplanes. I sometimes pack it in a suit bag, and it's showing signs of wear from that.
Is that 9 keyboards if I count my pianos and the Hammond? I've also got some kind of Casio in my workshop; it's a surprisingly good controller for being a damn $10 garage sale keyboard. It's even got some kind of sequencer (never used it) and it's, I think, 76 keys with velocity. On the dashboard of my VW van I have an SK-1. Oh, and there's also the Tune-A-Fish, does that count? http://www.closeout.com/sp-taf200.html
I saw that on KVR and I HAD TO have it. Just a bit too small to be really useful but it has a prominent place on my rig.

My style requires a full time straight piano. I don't like the piano keys for anything but piano, so I also need a synth-action board. And because I can, I have another board devoted to organ sounds or sometimes patched as a strictly lead monosynth controller. So I could get by with two, but I really enjoy having 3. The Quik-Lok stands make it possible; that and the Edirol midi patchbay.woolyloach wrote:Ok, I'm curious.. how many keyboards to most people have set up in their studio? Three, but that's stretching things a bit. Evolution MK-225C, old cheezly Yamaha PSR, even older (but less formaggio-like) Moog Prodigy. The latter has no MIDI.

Currently I have 5 keyboards:
- CME UF8 when I want piano action
- Evolution MK461c mainly for live gigs (connected to my laptop)
- Yamaha CS2x
- Rhodes piano
- And the latest entry: Yamaha Motif 7, hopefully to be replaced with a Motif ES6 soon
And I play them all

Two, a Poly 800 and an Evolution MK-249C². I only play the Evolution these days, my Poly 800 is suffering from memory loss and I can't be bothered to restore all the sounds I made (but never backed up).

I have six, if you count my Yamaha melodica:
1) Evolution MK361 - my main controller, right in front of the PC.
2) Evolution MK225C - portable controller for my laptop.
3) Yamaha P80 - my wife plays piano and I also like to mess with it sometimes.
4) Ensoniq ESQ-1 - my second controller. This is one synth I love and I play it when making patches.
5) Yamaha melodica - well, it does have a keyboard, doesn't it?
6) Fender Rhodes 73 Mk1 - I love it but it had to stay at my mom's so I rarely play it. When I have enough space, I'll bring it in.
Most of the work is done with the Evo MK-361 but I would like to have another synth keyboard; maybe a Nord Lead 2. It's just much easier to make patches on a keyboard than on a rack module, but I just don't have enough space right now. Maybe in a couple of years I will.
