What sample player(s) do you use? What's your musical style?
I use mostly SampleTank. It came with a fair assortment of basses, and I also picked up the Bass Capsule for more choices. Pretty good stuff for the kind of music I do.

Reading these forums, I get the impression the answer is: Trilogy.

...if you are willing to spend lots of money, deal with online activation and do not mind not being able to edit your instruments as you wish. since this question is anyway asked in the samples/sampling section I assume that Apparition is after a sampling lib rather than a VSTi.
My suggestions are (if we are taling about electric bass guitars):
high budget (I have neither, just found the demos good):
the scarbee basses (j-slap and j-fingered)
yellow tools pure e-basses
low budget:
prosamples vol 44 (real e-basses, a light version of the yellow tools pure e-basses which I happen to have and can recommend)
soundscan vol. 6 (electric & acoustic bass, quite ok, and also a good acoustic)
ulimate bass kit (very good, imo best vfm)
the basses from www.wizoosounds.com (they have a great precision bass, both fingered and picked and both in flatwound and roundwound variations, also a wonderful sting ray is there in fingered, picked and slapped, and I particularly like the pagelli fretless. all can be downloaded separately and in different sizes, but some of the xxl version have like 500 megs and are at about 30 USD each. so it's a little more expensive than the libs above, but still a great value)
best, akj

For bass and more, have a listen to the demos: http://www.beladmedia.com/studiob.htm
Also, the GigaStudio 3 version is on sale for $149 right now.
No activations, C/R, dongles or anything like that, plus full access to the raw wav files for you to have fun with - should you wish too.
Demos here: http://www.beladmedia.com/sb-demos.htm (the grey text under the picture - those are the links).

yup just listened to the audio examples again and you forget your listening to a sampled bass(I'm not a bass player though mind you)

Another vote for the Manytone UBK here - I can't see anything touching this kind of quality and playability at the price.

Derek.

Wizoo do good electric bass samples which can be downloaded immdeiately if you're in a hurry
For example a huge 400mb+ vintage Fender Precision roundwound for $29.95, with different switchable playing styles, 5 velo levels etc.
Wizoo have a good selection of low cost high quality basses basses.
http://www.wizoosounds.com/cgi-bin/WebO ... 3.13.2.1.1
For $99 you can have Scarbee's J Fingered which has individual string control. Real nice samples, believe me.
http://www.scarbee.com/products/jf/index.php
And further up the scale there's Trilogy. If you need acoustic bass, you have to try it. But it includes a lot of classic synths while you might prefer programming your own.
It can be bought for $320 here
http://www.zzounds.com/item--SPCTRILOGY
Maybe the best actual money value is UBK - $110 for Wusik and UBK as a bundle, uoto 15th August.
It doesn't have the same midi switchability as the others, but you can layer your own sounds. And you get a free Wusik ManyStation thrown in the deal, which includes some great guitars.

Isn't it great to be so spoiled for choice

Maybe one of our sampling experts could take the UBK wusiksound files and export them to Kontakt 2 or Halion 3 and do some more work on them.
Well, UBK sounds nice, but lack of key switching is definitely a limitation.Another vote for the UBK.

I did a VSampler programming with an improved key-mapping, lots of key-switching and velo-switching programmes which I offered Paul. Don't know if he alraedy did a test but I did it according to my personal needs and it works quie well here.
