there are some suit wearin music sales ppl (among whom are ppl that can't play what they sell) who think i'm too old to be lookin for a band and i should concentrate on makin money. (they also think the flaming skull on my band wanted poster scares ppl away.)
i was taken to the drum and bugle international tonight. it was boring, but i was intrigued by the huge amount of multi-talented ppl. i asked my gf why i can't find ppl like that. she said ppl get that out of their system when they're young. out of their system? what the hell happens to ppl?

well my friend only you can answer this...this is one fork in the road we all come to...but it's like groundhog day, we keep going back...I dont know what "out of their system" means either...fwiw those who think you should be making money with your music may not understand what music means to you...unless of course making money is the main priority of music to you (which is fine)....again a choice only you can make....I can say from experience that there's something to be said for being true to yourself...androidlove wrote:there are some suit wearin music sales ppl (among whom are ppl that can't play what they sell) who think i'm too old to be lookin for a band and i should concentrate on makin money. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

We had a few people come up to us after our gig in Germany and a coupel of them said that they had assumed I was the roadie when they saw me setting up and were very surprised to see me walk out on stage for the first song. One of them will be out of hospital in a few weeks.
I certainly know that I am far too old to get on MTV but that has never been why I do this. I'm also sure that it impacts on our success in a more general way but, again, that's not why I do it. So until you're older than Mick Jagger I don't think you have too much to worry about.

I think ppl generally come to the conclusion that they really aren't as good as they thought they were and decide to focus on being practical.Hink wrote:when they close the lid...Resonance wrote:Define "too old"

"getting it out of their system" = had fun, realize they suck, move on to a real job so they can feed themselves.
Some ppl unfortunately carry the delusion that they really ARE good and should be making records, or playing in front of people, or whatever, long past what is realistic in light of their 'talent'.
AndroidLove mentioned money, so I gather he wants to play in front of people. If it's just a band for fun, family and friends, then definitely playing in a rock band til' you die is a good idea. If you want to play the circuit, lack the talent, AND you no longer look the part of the rocker, then you're into a 'grey' area where you might be in trouble. If you're pulling a crowd, then your cool.
Obviously I have no idea what the specific situation is, so I'm just throwing out my two cents.

I don't think the flaming skull and 'no drugs' go well together.

Resonance,
1. it's like ya skimmed the topic, saw the word "money", and reacted. i'm just tryin to get a band together. makin a livin at would be great, but i'm in it for the feeling...the fun. if i could find a few crazy ass mofos like myself, we could get gigs. i don't care if it's tips or just "hey look, a band". it's about playing live, THAT is all
2. about losing the skull - what good will it do me me to find some limp bastards? they gotta know who i am up front
