I currently use FL Studio prodcuer edition to make loops and squence them together with Ableton Live 3. I mostly use FL to do drumloops and record my Microkorg thru a E-mu 0404. This is probably a stupid question, but I'm new to making electronic music and was wondering if anyone here could give a recomendation on a good host for making ambient type music. FL studio use to be great for me when I was doing beat based music, but now that I've started trying to get into ambient type music I find it's... lacking. I'm looking for something that dosen't cost much. $300 is my budjet. Any suggestions on a host that works better with Midi input and is a good enviroment from trying to construct ambient sounds?

my personal opinion is it would be better if you spent the 300 bucks on plugins instead. there are lots of free and commercial plugins for making kickass ambient music. and also you could buy energy xt (very cheap) to use inside fl studio. if you spend some time and the money you have, you'll end up with a myriad of awesome plugins suitable for ambient music. as well as energy xt which opens doors you can't even imagine. i still have to buy energy xt myself. :)

hmmm. ambient is not my specialty but i'll throw in a couple of names. go to http://www.algomusic.nl/ and http://www.flomo-art.de/se/. but that's only two. :( there are so many great plugins for ambient type stuff but i can't really remember them all. maybe it's better to post in the instruments thread so people who are more knowledgeable about this can help you. :)

I think he's fond of absynth,too.
edit: shane sanders is another ambient fl user
maybe they'll chime in with some suggestions.
heck, I've even heard ambient done in abelton live..
so really, the host isn't the answer.

I dunno why, but Traktion comes to mind. I like the way the tempo changes are reflected in the piano roll graphically, it seems ambient may use tempo changes differently than a lot of other styles and that seems like a good feature to me. Plus, it fits the pricerange and you could get Albino or another quality plug that does ambient sounds well.

Also, you can change the color scheme to fit your mood!
