here's the crap i'm dealing with (aka TVperson)...

http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=21737

in a nutshell: bent dongle, licenses apparently transferred to Steinberg Key, LCC now says "can't interpret licenses"

...anyone have any ideas?

God I hate dongles! Sorry dude.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

I feel for you, man.

How attached are you to Cubase? Seriously, this kinda sh*t is unacceptable, and exactly the reason dongles should be done away with.

I chose Sonar (serial# only) for this very reason. If they ever move to dongle copy-protection, I will drop them in half a second for Podium (or something else that's dongle-less).

right now i'm pretty attached, financially that is...

i bought the license key as a security issue due to a bent dongle, but it is proving to be otherwise. that was $35 bucks, which i bought with the full version of Reaktor 5 (which i have yet to install because of this) on my recent trip to Toronto. total cost plus Ontario's 15% tax and i'm stuck... :bang:

I sold Halion 3 when I discovered the ugly blue dongle in the box.

I'm rapidly approaching (probably already hit it) the point where new host features exceed my musical capabilities and ability to find a use for them. I skipped Sonar 3 and I'm going to be hard-pressed to go with Sonar 5 at this point... if they change to a more intrusive copy protection method then I'll be even more inclined to skip future upgrades.

I think as long as it continues to run on future platforms, FLStudio 5, P5V2 and Sonar 4P may keep me happy for a long time... or I'll keep a machine around just for them.

Sorry to hear, CC4.

I also bought an SX3 upgrade, but it came with a brand new dongle and license number, I had no problem activating it with Syncrosoft.

Hope everything works out, because SX3 is a very nice version, it runs absolutely stable on my PC.

Can you order a new dongle from Steinberg?

Peter.

I bust my dongle a while back, sent it to Steinberg, paid a small fee, new one came within 3 days.

DOH, I should have read your post better, you already have a new dongle.

Couldn't you ask Syncrosoft to re-activate the license key number that was on one of the cards that came with Cubase SX3?

Peter.

i filled out a PC Support Request form on the Steinberg Canada website yesterday, and e-mailed both them and Syncrosoft today. i haven't even received a confirmation from them that they received the request. when i bought the SX3 upgrade, I bought it directly from Steinberg Canada - so they have to have my information plus my registration. now it's just the waiting game, i guess. :(

i know i cursed myself when i bought SX1. i said to myself, "i don't know how i feel about this dongle thing." the dongle seems to be a regular topic now at the Cubase forums, but most of the users there seem rather happy "playing with their dongles" (sic).

the key was a recommended option for a bent dongle. i will state that i will never user this copy protection scheme in the future. :tantrum:

...the administrative moderator is helping me out over there. i'll let you all know how it goes (and how quickly), as i know many of you hate dealing with support, dongles, and such.

Post

after private messaging with the administrative moderator at cubase, and getting a brief message from steinberg canada essentially stating to talk to him, i received an email today from syncrosoft stating that they will "initialize a complete dongle exchange." a relief, but i'm wondering how long that will take. :|

i'm guessing they probably want to investigate the dongles to see what went wrong. if you purchase other steinberg products instead of using multiple dongles you should be able to transfer all the licenses onto their key... so anyway...

Why not use the H20 version meanwhile - it has no such issues :D

According to steinberg it does. Although they deny it works any better than theirs.
