Tick always seems to think Rhino is perfect and never needs an update.

So far, he seems like he's sticking to that!

So, is it... (Dead?)

:P

Post

what do you feel it's lacking?
im just curious.

thus far, i've only been a preset user of rhino so, from a programming aspect, i wouldnt know if there are key areas where updates and new features are particularly needed or desired.

Well I know there has been a graphics bug in Live for ever.

I think only the developer can say what is lacking or can be improved because all innovations spring from their mind.

I just wanted to hear what tick had to say?

Rhino will be supported with new sounds for a long time as it still inspires me everyday. No hardware synth has done that this long. In that aspect Rhino is not dead.

Post

I hope Rhino isn't dead, it's a good compliment to my hardware synths! :help:

Yes. That would be easier to track down if Live didn't insist on crashing on me that often.

To be honest, I'd prefer make a new synth from scratch, rather than try to fit new features in Rhino in an awkward way.

Aye, Rhino feels fairly complete by my reckoning. Sure you could add a bunch of stuff, make it the neverending ubersynth, but there is a certain poetry in allowing it to be what it is, no more no less.

Now what might you consider next, Tick? Feels like there's a need for something to shock us all. Something fresh and elegant.

Post

Good question. Obviously, something that won't compete with Rhino...

Why do people always say complete (virtually) = "dead" - makes no sense to me. Why do synths always need updating and features adding if there's no major problems with them and they do the job?

Dunno.. never had any fancy upgrades for my old U-20, or my current Motif ES Rack. Did get a hella upgrade for my Fantom X, though, and I thought it was perfect already! :-o

I'm plenty happy with Rhino as is, especially given the amazing banks that Daniel has made for it. What's to complain about? :D

Who said that? There were the 'is it dead' folk , and then the 'it is complete' folk.

I think Rhino is complete. But I don't think Rhino is dead. It is what it is.

What wouldn't compete with Rhino? How about some kind of spectral/FFT processor? Like the Rhino version of Bidule? Or how about a non-tracker tracker? Take all the power of a tracker, but change the interface into something new.

No way, I use it all the time and love the textures and sounds I get with it. I think it will be around for a long time.

Tick did it right when he made Rhino...

if it were dead, there'd be no reason to sell it or it wouldn't be available...that's 'dead' in my opinion

and it would be one damn huge shame, for so many reasons, if 'Tick wasn't selling Rhino anymore. There's simply no reason for him to do that, and it would be a drag for people who might want it in the future, but don't have it now..

plus I think Daniel has proven time and time again that Rhino is more alive than just about any other vst synth out there

i have a lot of admiration for both 'Tick and Daniel for what Rhino is and means to me, and i think people who don't 'get it' are missing out big time...their loss i suppose

long live the mighty Rhino :hail:
