Hey KvR...In Sonar, is it possible to control Antares Auto Tune (which I have as an effect on my vocal track) via MIDI and if so, how would I go about doing it? I must be missing something because I set the MIDI channel within Auto Tune to the coresponding MIDI channel I just recorded...

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

edit: NEVERMIND. I went through the Sonar forums and just found out that effects perameters CANNOT be controlled via MIDI. Well damn....

can you not just control autotune using nrpn's. every efect i've got i use nrpn's and envelopes to control in sonar.

never used autotune tho so it might be different ? or i might have the wrong end of the stick.

i would normaly just set up a midi track for the effect i wanted to control and then insert an envelope, as well as the options for volume, pan etc there is a midi option. then choose nrpn from the drop down and you should get a list of all the effects parameters.

sorry if this isn't what you meant.

cheers,

steve.

Messing around with Sonar at a friend's studio, I had limited success with sending midi to plugins. I experimented with wrapping VST plugs that do receive midi as DXI no, just DX plugs. As instruments, Sonar was ok with sending midi to those plugins, and you can insert instruments in your effect chain for an audio track. However, this doesn't help you since Antares has blown off development on the PC vst version of Autotune for over a year.

To summarize your options in Sonar: Get MidiOx and do Midi-loopback into AutoTune through a virtual-midi-cable...

...OR yell at Antares for not delivering PC VST Autotune yet...

Auto-Tune 4's MIDI functions require that your computer be equipped with a MIDI interface and properly configured system level software. The DirectX version requires a multi-client MIDI driver. Some host applications may not support the routing of MIDI to plug-ins, in which case Auto-Tune 4's MIDI functions will not operate.

tou'll have to tick the "configure as dxi" tick box in the wrapper to allow midi to fx plugs.

although i think its only where timing is importatnt i actually do it on all fx as a matter of course.

For the scenario on this thread (Sonar using AutoTune), unfortunately your suggestion doesn't help: There is no VST (for PC) version of AutoTune, so the "wrapper" options are irrelevent. Antares keeps moving the date for VST/PC AutoTune.
