i have a fantom x6 keyboard and i want to know if i can connect it to my computer and using fruity loops record the sounds from the phantom while i play into a beat i am making. does anyone know how to use live mode in fruity loops?

Yes you can do this. There are three separate things going on. You've got midi input and output. You've also got audio input. Third thing is the internal (vsti) generators. You can record audio from these as well, or just use them as midi devices.
You need to decide where you want to start. I'd start with the mixer, and learn how to record an audio track (the output of your Roland). Then I'd mess with a generator channel (any instrument) for a while to get familiar with the piano roll, MIDI recording and control, that sort of thing. At some point, it will all Click, I'm sure, and you'll be doing cool stuff.
