I am a very happy FL Studio 50.02 user. I have lots of VSTs etc. I have been using FL Studio for about 18 months now.

I have really come a long way.

What could the PROs recommend as a upgrade path.
Cubase
Logic
Cakewalk or any others ??
I have cut a few CDs for myself and friends
This stuff is all quite expensive so I want to make the right choice.

Tks

So why do you want to move?

First, try the demos.

Second, if FLS is meeting your needs, why do you feel you need to upgrade? The only thing I've found lacking in FLS is audio recording handling, but I already had Sonar for that.

If you really feel a need to move away from FLS, I'd suggest you take a look at the demos for Project 5 and Sonar (whether the Home Studio version or the Studio or Producer version), see what they give you that FLS doesn't.

Steinberg, last I knew, didn't have a demo. Logic is Mac-only. Tracktion is very different from FLS. Those are the hosts I'm most familiar with.

Logic is a pretty flower that smells bad - Spock, in "I, Mudd"

Try Reason 3.0. I find myself writing more tunes in Reason now even though I am more familiar with FL5.

1. Keep FLS as your drum machine program!!!

2. Check out the demos for Live 5 & Orion 6.

as far as i'm concerned, Sonar makes a very good companion to FLS. For Audio and Midi recordings/editing

I'm a Sonar fan too, and very much a Reason nut. :-)

Whatever you get, make sure it will play nicely with FLS. AFAIK you can't legally sell Fruity. It would be a shame to throw away all the skills and knowledge you've built in FLS. Better to "leverage" (feh, biztalk) what you've already learned.

If you are not planning to expand your setup with any hardware synth - stay with FLS!!!! You will not get into a "PRO" category by switching to a different host/sequencer/softstudio. Keep improving your skills and let your work do the talking, not the list of tools you use.

What twister said...plus get a good mic and a small hardware mixer if you want to do recording. FLS is *excellent* for audio recording so if you're struggling with that aspect you should experiment more with it. Or buy Sound Forge or Adobe Audition to complement FLS.

Anything that caters for the needs you have that FLS doesn't provide you... Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude, that's about it. All the rest mentioned (Tracktion, Project 5, Orion, Reason) don't offer you more, just a different workflow. Especially since you said you have a bunch of VSTs already so the included synths in some packages aren't a necessity for you.

PDC, freeze, proper audio handling... again, Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude. SAW if you're willing to pay a lot and don't care for MIDI side of things that much. Logic if you're loaded to the point investing in a new platform isn't an issue ;)

Sidestepping to Live might be a good possibility though, it's a refreshing way of doing music.

Anyways, FL is kickass, even with all the little niggles (audio tracks, limited functionality with outboard gear, no PDC nor freeze, no "proper" mixer - which is getting improved in the next version we're been told here on KVR). Keep at it, switching to a bigger app won't make you more pro. You already possess a tool that gives you every possibility to create amazing stuff.

Ableton Live or Tracktion.

I think he wants to move from FLS just to become a pro.
Lol

I really don't see the problems with audio recording in FLS. But then again I'm not pro...have only used it for about 3 years so I haven't found every single bug yet. :-o

I don't even bother answering inqueries like that unless the poster's sig contains a website with well produced music.
