I love reason but if theres one thing that rarely becomes a part of my work, Its the note CV and gate CV inputs and outputs on devices.. Except of course the occasional cv outputs from matrix goin to sampler and synth devices...

so i have decided to try some things out with these connections... read all the info in help and started out... but not making much headway...

i wanted to give a rhythmic effect to a pad. i played a chord on my nnxt with a strings patch loaded, opened a rex loop and connected the slice gate output to the nnxt gate input... shouldnt this trigger the pad each time a slice is played... but alas nothing like that would happen ...am i doin something wrong..

also hoping some of u guys could share some cool connections that u made using note cv and/or gate cv and some kool sounds u achieved...

Head over to the Props forums. Register if you haven't already. The go to the Phead User Forum and ask EditEd4TV how to get his "Reasonable Help" CD. Excellent tips there.

if we're talking about 3.0, download refills and combinator patches from combinatorhq.com
there are also free video tutorials, there.

You probably want to connect the Dr.Rex slice gate output to the nnxt sequencer control gate input & then run the dr.rex & it should trigger it.

Well i've done exactly this. i play a chord on the nnxt after selecting strings patch. now i start the rex loop, hoping to get a beat effect out of the strings. but as soon the first slice is passed the strings stop sounding.

it does not seem to be gettin a note on message at the beginning of each slice, except the first one....

You might go over to Peff's site too. He's a real routing whiz. His book on Reason 2.5 is full of great tools/ ideas, helped me a lot.

Frankly--its all incredibly overated. I wasn't sure until I listened to the combinator pathes--they were
so ordinary. I just think you get much more out of
envolope editing a la absynth or direct animation
if you want to work in Reason. If you ever get a hold
of sonic refill check out those patches--they really
show Reason's synths in their best form.

lucille, overrated? what?

josevin, the slice gate output in Dr.rex is more for triggering intruments with proper envelopes than for stable gating fxs, just my two cents.

have tried some comp-based ducking?

Could u elaborate dude.. Whats instruments with 'Proper" envelopes... And yeah Comp Based ducking,.. keen to know more.. :)

something with proper envelope, means triggering nn-xt, subtractor, malstrom, the filter module. everything that has an envelope, an ADSR or an AD (in case of the filter). so u can use decay, sustain and release for longer or shorter notes. Or, that's how I use it.

If you have reason3 (I asked before...) check the manual for the new C Class compressor, you can use volume fluctuations of an instruments (dr.rex) to shape another one (strings from a subtractor). it's called sidechaining.

If you're using Reason 3, load the combinator patch I created for an example of some CV routing weirdness.
