I'm puzzled over something regarding the korg triton. Is it a synth? Not in terms of just being able to changed the ADSR on a piano for instance. I'm talking osc's, filter, amp, etc. Is it also a synthesizer? Or just a sample based keyboard?

It is indeed a fuuly fledged synth, its just that it uses a sample-ROM as the basis of its oscillators. Then there is the physically modelled Z-1 board that you can add into it for true V/A.

Its a workstation because its multi-timbral and has a sequencer, mixer and insert/send effects. It can also be a sampler and a physically modelled synth so its kind of like having a super high-quality host with its own instruments and effects running on a 2GHz or so CPU, in terms of how much you can do at once.

I'm a big fan of the MOSS board, the original Z1 was awesome. Turn on any RnB or hip hop station & you'll hear a Triton.

Is that why hip hop and R&B suck now?Uncle E wrote:I'm a big fan of the MOSS board, the original Z1 was awesome. Turn on any RnB or hip hop station & you'll hear a Triton.

I can't stand the Triton's sound... and for that matter, I can't stand Yamaha or Roland's sound anymore either. Korg sounds really ah... plastic, I suppose you could say and sounds really thin up in the higher octaves of the keyboard. Korg downgraded with the Triton, I think.sidhu wrote:What do you ppl. make of the sound of the Triton ?

I think the Triton has much better sounds than my Trinity did. Very usable and not slanted towards scoring for American tele-movies. The quality is first-rate, the effects are amazing and everything is incredibly flexible. The only sequencer I have come across that I prefer to the Trinity's is ORION.

I'm getting way to old to be lugging around that kind fo weight when a laptop gives me more power on stage. I really loved my Trinity but I don't miss it one bit.

Maybe it's the way I've heard people use the Triton, but to me it doesn't sound nearly as natural as the Trinity did. The Trinity had a very natural feel to its instruments (and especially its strings
), even if some of the sounds were out of tune.
Korg's new Oasys board looks promising. From the videos and demos, it sounds pretty good too. It'd be a good idea to check that one out... when it comes out, that is.
