A Kontakt 5 sampler, Direct Bass is based on an experimental electric bass guitar with different physics. 96 kHz/24-bit, six velocity zones, three round-robin variation zones.
Direct Bass is a Native Instruments' Kontakt 5.0.5 (minimum) bass guitar sampler. The software instrument features six velocity layers, three round-robin layers, and a total of 792 samples, spanning a note range of C0 to G3 (five-string bass guitar). Samples are 96-kHz/24-bit mono format (lossless-compressed to Kontakt's internal wave format). The physical bass guitar is an experimental 24-fret M-and-J pickup instrument with low-capacitive wiring and additional shielding, set up with La Bella RX strings. The instrument was sampled through a DI box to a warm-sounding, precise sound interface based on the AKM AK4556 ADC. Thanks to unconventional materials used and different physics, the instrument achieves an almost acoustic bass- or contrabass-like sound. The tone can be further tweaked with Kontakt's built-in effects. The sampler mixes well and plays well on any speakers, even mobile phones, thanks to a wealth of high harmonics.
