Modeling technology that captures the behavior, not just the sound. Bright, penetrating, and tuned above the erhu, the gaohu is the lead melodic voice of Cantonese opera and Guangdong music. Naada Gaohu delivers its cutting upper-register tone as a polyphonic physical model inside GeoShred Studio, with continuous pitch control and real-time gesture response across the playing surface.

Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.

Where the erhu weeps, the gaohu sings with a clear, forward projection designed to carry above an ensemble. Naada Gaohu models this brighter, higher-pitched member of the huqin family inside GeoShred Studio, where the AccelMatrix Naada engine generates each note as a continuous physical simulation. On the multi-row pitch surface, pressure adjusts bow intensity, lateral slides shape ornamental figures, and the polyphonic engine lets you stack melodic voices or sustain chords with the gaohu's distinctive bright timbre. EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab processing are available through GeoShred's built-in FX rack.

High Huqin: Built to Project

Developed in 1920s Guangdong province, the gaohu was purpose-built to cut through the dense texture of Cantonese opera orchestras. Its smaller resonating chamber and higher tuning (G and D, a fourth above the erhu) give it a bright, clear tone with more forward projection than its lower-pitched relatives. The model captures this penetrating quality and the specific timbral character that has made the gaohu the defining solo voice of Guangdong musical tradition for a century.

Running as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin or as a standalone application, GeoShred Studio provides an isomorphic pitch surface tuned in perfect fourths. Every point on the grid responds to pressure and gesture continuously, translating physical movement into musical expression without intermediate steps. The surface accommodates everything from precise single-note ornaments to broad multi-finger gestures.

The free GeoShred Control app for iPhone and iPad adds a portable multi-touch surface that connects to GeoShred Studio via USB. MPE-capable hardware controllers and wind or breath controllers connect directly as additional input sources.
