Pixels is a granular synth that maps grains using sound features.
This sub-set of granular synthesis is known as concatenative synthesis and it uses audio descriptors to create a navigable grain-space by mapping any two features to the X and Y axes - this versatile sampling technique lends itself to expressive performances and automations.
By grouping grains in this way, you can use audible characteristics of sound to traverse grains in a way you're probably unfamiliar with in granular synthesis - a very intuitive and meaningful way, that is.
Pixels features a simple, hardware-inspired UI with highly responsive, automatable parameters.
It includes built-in modulators (3 envelopes + 4 LFOs) with expressive shaping algorithms and various trigger modes.
Randomization and modulation is at the core of the synth, from extreme to very subtle morphing attainable with carefully tuned parameter curves, there are countless sweet-spots to find in just a small set of controls.
Time Quantization lets you use divisions of the current tempo to trigger your grains and Pitch Quantization options allow you to achieve complex micro-tonal, harmonious just-intonation or musical equal-tempered results from the very same control.
