Native Instruments has released version 2.2 of Kontakt which offers support for Intel Macs as well as adding new features and enhancements.
The update is free for Windows and PowerPC-based Mac users. For Intel-Mac users, the following applies: If Kontakt 2 was activated after September 12th, 2006, or if you own Komplete 4, you are eligible for the free download. If you activated Kontakt 2 for the first time before the 12th of September 2006, you can download the Universal Binary update for $29 / €25 from the NI Online Shop.
Changes:
- Format Change: Instruments, Multis, Banks saved in this version are not compatible to previous versions of Kontakt.
- Universal Binary Version is included with this version.
- Channels in host mixers now reflect the state of the Kontakt outputs section. This includes the following surround settings with VST in Cubase/Nuendo: 2.1, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1.
- Loops: you can now preview loops (ACID, AppleLoops, BeatCreator, and REX) in sync! You can also create one instrument with several loops by dragging these loops into the rack. Finally, you can now drag and drop loops directly into the Mapping Editor.
- Adjust loop start: you can now adjust the loop start for all selected zones in the Loop Editor's Command menu.
- New import formats: Battery 3 kits, Battery 3 cells, DR-008, Pulsar STS, RGC SFZ.
- Kconvert logs are now always stored in the Kontakt 2 application folder (PC) or the Application Support/Native Instruments folder (Mac); logs are now deleted when they are older than seven days.
- Save/load group: you can now save and load groups via the Edit menu in the Group Editor.
- New group presets are included in "16 - Groups" inside the Kontakt 2 library folder.
- Load via double-click: you can now load NKI, NKB, and NKM files by double-clicking them in the Explorer/Finder.
- 128 voice groups are now available in the Group Editor.
- AHD mode is now available in the envelope.
- Source tune now supports +/- 36 halftones.
- New modulators under External Sources: Constant, Random Unipolar, Random Bipolar.
- NKC files are now hidden away in subfolders.
- KSP - New Commands in 2.2:
- New callback type: on ui_update.
- New built-in variables for group based scripting: $REF_GROUP_IDX and %GROUPS_SELECTED.
- Creating custom group start options: NO_SYS_SCRIPT_GROUP_START and SET_CONDITION().
- Retrieving the Release Trigger state of a group: $ENGINE_PAR_RELEASE_TRIGGER
- Default values for knobs set_knob_defval(<knob-variable>, <value>).
NOTE: Because of a new registration system, you need to re-activate Kontakt on all systems using Service Center.
