Noisebud has announced the release of TALC, an EQ plugin that combines a linear phase Hi-Shelf boost with the saturation engine from Noisebud Square2. Here's what they say:
The thing that sets TALC apart is its two dynamic algorithms that intelligently control the processing applied to your signal.
First, the "Dynamic Dry-Wet" section features a slowed-down envelope follower with threshold control. This dynamic processing follows the natural energy of your music, applying more boost during intense parts to enhance the song's natural energy.
Second, the "Sibilance Protection" section ensures that any audio parts at risk of sounding too bright or harsh are temporarily bypassed, maintaining the original signal integrity. This section operates in two steps: it detects sibilance and then identifies loud transients in the upper spectrum. The result is that TALC only boosts background elements, creating an open, detailed sound—like putting on your glasses.
The plugin was designed for mastering, however noisebud claim it can also be useful during the mixing process. For instance, it can add high-end to a vocal without the need for de-essing.
TALC is available to Noisebud patrons at Patreon ($5 per month).
