Noisebud has released version 1.10 of Aboh!, a plugin designed to deal with over-compressed tracks by letting you adjust separate gain controls for when the signal goes above or below a threshold. It works similarly to their plugin Peach, but instead of using a compressor's ratio, Aboh! simply lets you set the gain above and below the threshold independently.
The purpose is to fix the common "reverse pumping" effect you often hear in breakdowns or quieter passages of heavily limited tracks. The loud and dense sections stay untouched, while quieter sections are automatically compensated – without having to draw detailed automation.
It can also be sidechained (for example to a kick in EDM), making it possible to bring levels back with millisecond precision in a way that automation almost never achieves.
Changes in Aboh! v1.10
- Curve control redesigned: now a round knob instead of a bar, making it faster and more consistent with the other time-based controls.
- Sidechain spectrum markers: two small dots show where the sidechain filter is set, even when no signal is present.
- Sidechain auto-adjust: automatically normalizes the input level so it's easier to set the threshold.
- GUI refinements: Delta and Bypass moved slightly to the right, Sidechain and Preview to the left for a cleaner layout.
