Real Sound Lab releases CONEQ P2 EQ Plug-in

-
Real Sound Lab

Real Sound Lab has announced the release of the CONEQ P2 EQ VST plug-in for Windows.

CONEQ Technology

Real Sound Lab's CONEQ is a technology to measure and correct loudspeakers based on their Acoustic Power frequency response. With CONEQ correction every loudspeaker sounds better - clear, natural, without attenuations - within the limits of its physical capabilities, according to Real Sound Lab.

The CONEQ technology is applied in two steps. First, a precise measurement of how loud the loudspeaker reproduces tones of each frequency is done and a correction filter is automatically produced. This is done by the CONEQ Workshop application explained below. Second, the filter is applied by any of the software or hardware tools supporting CONEQ, here - the CONEQ P2 plug-in.

CONEQ P2 Plug-in

CONEQ P2CONEQ P2 plug-in is a two-channel equalizer used to correct the frequency response characteristics of loudspeakers from within a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). The CONEQ P2 plug-in works inside a VST host application on Windows (XP and Vista).

To use CONEQ P2 plug-in, compatible CONEQ correction filters must be produced in the CONEQ Workshop application, devised to perform measurements and create correction filters.

CONEQ P2 plug-in is the first-born of the CONEQ P plug-in family expecting further additions to meet the needs of those recording and mixing 5.1 and 7.1 surround signal projects.

CONEQ Workshop Acoustic Power Measurement Software

CONEQ Workshop Acoustic Power Measurement software is unique in terms of precision and speed in analysing speaker and speaker array frequency response characteristics, according to Real Sound Lab. But CONEQ Workshop stretches beyond the analysis alone - CONEQ Workshop creates the correction finite impulse response (FIR) filters, applying which the correction is effectively achieved.

CONEQ Workshop plays the test signal through the sound system. The user moves the measurement microphone slowly across the sound field of the loudspeaker system while the software acquires hundreds of data units. This process typically takes two to three minutes and requires a measurement microphone and a compatible audio interface or soundcard.

When the measurement process is completed, CONEQ Workshop recalculates the measurement data producing a graph reflecting the true Acoustic Power Frequency Response of the sound source, then CONEQ Workshop generates inverted correction curve.

According to Real Sound Lab, the primary benefit of CONEQ's extremely high-resolution correction is the exceptional linearity brought to the loudspeaker system, which results in unusual sonic accuracy and realism. In live-sound applications CONEQ increases intelligibility while reducing feedback, and in recording applications a CONEQ corrected monitoring system reflects sound neutrally, which is essential for mixing music performed either by live singers or music instruments, both acoustic and electronic.
