Suzumushi has released SoundObject 4.0 for Windows.
SoundObject creates binaural and transaural sounds with a sense of three-dimensional sound localization from a monaural acoustic source and its positional information. It uses a pinnae (earlobe) scattering effect filter to achieve a sense of direction in the elevation direction.
In earlier versions, the impulse response for this filter was derived from Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) measured using dummy heads. In version 4, however, a "typical" HRTF is synthesized using machine learning trained on publicly available HRTF databases and applied as the impulse response for the pinna scattering filter. This approach delivers a clearer perception of elevation compared to previous versions.
