1005 Modamp Ring Modulator and VCA

The Behringer 1005 Modamp is an authentic reproduction of the versatile 1005 MODAMP module from the ARP 2500 system, combining two essential modular functions into a single Eurorack unit: a balanced ring modulator and a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA). This module is a powerful tool for both tonal shaping and creating complex, inharmonic textures. The ring modulator is perfect for generating metallic, bell-like, and robotic sounds, while the VCA provides clean, responsive amplitude control, making the 1005 a highly flexible component in any modular synthesist's toolkit.

The module is divided into two main sections. The top section is a classic balanced modulator (ring modulator) that takes two audio inputs (X and Y) and outputs their sum and difference frequencies, creating rich, often non-melodic timbres. The VCA section at the bottom provides both linear and exponential control over the amplitude of an audio signal, making it suitable for both audio processing and control voltage manipulation. The VCA includes its own gain control and can be modulated by external CV sources, such as an envelope generator or LFO. The module also features a unique un-modulated VCA output, providing a clean signal path when needed.
