The API 505-DI is a professional-grade direct input module designed for the popular 500 series format. It provides a straightforward and high-quality solution for connecting instruments like electric guitars, basses, keyboards, and synthesizers directly to your recording console or interface. Renowned for the classic "API Sound," this module ensures your direct signals are captured with the warmth, punch, and clarity that have defined countless hit records. The 505-DI is an indispensable tool for any studio, allowing for the pristine capture of instrument-level signals without the need for an external direct box, saving space and integrating seamlessly into a 500 series workflow.
Engineered with the same attention to detail as API's legendary consoles, the 505-DI's circuit is built around the classic API 2510 discrete operational amplifier and a custom-wound API output transformer. This combination imparts a rich, analog character to any signal that passes through it. The front panel is intuitively laid out, featuring a 1/4" Hi-Z input for your instrument and a convenient 1/4" Thru output to send your signal simultaneously to an amplifier for monitoring or miking. The module offers up to 20dB of adjustable gain via a continuously variable pot, allowing you to perfectly match levels. A unique feature of the 505-DI is its powerful tone-shaping capabilities. A toggle switch allows you to engage a "Bright" circuit for added high-end sparkle, while a separate "Tone" control offers a 10-position knob that adjusts the input impedance and capacitance, providing a wide range of subtle to significant tonal variations. This makes the 505-DI not just a utility, but a creative tone-shaping tool.
