BAND – Analysis-Based Band Enhancement

BAND is a frequency-selective processor that combines FFT-based analysis, selective cancellation, and a conventional minimum-phase EQ.

It is designed to let you boost a frequency band without boosting the dominant or potentially problematic components inside that band.

How It Works

When Gain is positive:

  1. BAND performs FFT analysis within the selected frequency range.
  2. It identifies the strongest or potentially problematic components in that band.
  3. Those components are isolated.
  4. The isolated content is phase-inverted and summed with the dry signal, removing it via cancellation.
  5. A standard minimum-phase EQ boost is then applied to the remaining signal.

The EQ stage is a conventional minimum-phase equalizer. The boost is all "analog" if you like.

Negative Gain Behavior

When Gain is set to negative values:

  • Only the isolated dominant/problematic components are removed.
  • No minimum-phase EQ is applied.

In attenuation mode, BAND functions purely as a selective cancellation processor.

Inverse Mode

Inverse flips the polarity of the isolated components. Instead of cancelling them, they are reinforced. This allows monitoring of what is being removed or creative emphasis of those elements.

In practice, this can be used creatively. For example, if a signal has been heavily processed by multiband dynamics, spectral suppression tools, or adaptive resonance control processors, Inverse combined with negative Gain can be used to reinforce previously suppressed peaks within the selected band.

In this configuration, BAND effectively boosts the isolated components rather than removing them.

Controls

  • Gain – -6 dB to +6 dB.
  • Frequency – Target frequency selection.
  • Width (Q) – Affects processing when Gain is positive. No effect in attenuation mode.
  • Loudness Match – Level compensation for accurate A/B comparison.
  • Delta – Monitor removed content.
  • Bypass – Original vs processed comparison.
