Black DJ VCF

The Erica Synths Black DJ VCF is a high-performance, DJ-style filter that brings the tactile and intuitive feel of a classic DJ mixer's filter to the Eurorack world. This fully analog voltage-controlled filter is designed for live performance and dynamic sound shaping, allowing for quick and dramatic timbral changes with the turn of a single knob. Its unique bipolar control and resonant character make it an incredibly fun and effective tool for creating sweeps, drops, and builds in a live electronic music setup, as well as a versatile and musical filter for studio production.

The defining feature of the Black DJ VCF is its large, central Cutoff knob. In its 12 o'clock position, the filter is fully open, allowing the audio signal to pass through unaffected. Turning the knob counter-clockwise engages a low-pass filter, smoothly cutting out the high frequencies. Turning it clockwise engages a high-pass filter, removing the low frequencies. This single-knob, bipolar control makes it incredibly easy to perform expressive and intuitive filter sweeps. The module features a resonance control that adds a musical peak at the cutoff frequency, allowing you to create classic resonant filter sounds. At higher settings, the filter will self-oscillate, producing a pure sine wave that can be used as an additional sound source. The resonance is also sensitive to the incoming audio signal, adding to its dynamic and interactive nature. The Black DJ VCF includes two CV inputs for modulating the cutoff frequency. The first CV input has an attenuverter, allowing for both positive and negative modulation, while the second CV input has a standard attenuator. This provides a great deal of flexibility for creating complex and evolving filter movements, from subtle, rhythmic pulses to wild and chaotic sweeps.
