The Erica Synths Black Filter Coupler is a specialized satellite module designed to work in tandem with the Erica Synths Black High-Pass VCF and Black Low-Pass VCF. By connecting these three modules together, you can create a powerful and versatile state-variable filter with band-pass and band-reject (notch) filter functionalities. This combination unlocks a new level of sound-sculpting potential, allowing for intricate and precise control over the frequency spectrum of your audio signals. The Black Filter Coupler is an essential addition for owners of the Black VCF series who want to expand their filtering capabilities and explore more complex and nuanced sound design.
The primary function of the Black Filter Coupler is to provide dedicated band-pass and band-reject filter outputs. The band-pass filter allows only a specific range of frequencies to pass through, while the band-reject filter removes a specific range of frequencies. The module features manual and CV control over the center frequency and the bandwidth of both the band-pass and band-reject filters. This allows for dynamic and expressive modulation of the filter's characteristics, from sweeping through the frequency spectrum to creating subtle, evolving textures. A key advantage of this modular approach is that even when the Black Filter Coupler is connected, the Black High-Pass and Low-Pass VCFs can still be used independently. This means you can have up to four different filter outputs—low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-reject—all derived from the same audio source. This opens up a world of possibilities for creating complex and layered sounds, as well as for advanced techniques like parallel filtering.
