Black K-Phaser

The Erica Synths Black K-Phaser is a tribute to the classic and much-revered sound of vintage German phaser effects from the 1970s. This Eurorack module meticulously recreates the architecture of those iconic "Krautrock" phasers, utilizing eight all-pass filters with photoresistor control to achieve a deep, swirling, and exceptionally musical phasing effect. The Black K-Phaser is not just a clone, however; Erica Synths has thoughtfully incorporated modern features and enhancements that make it a more versatile and powerful tool for today's electronic musician, while still retaining the soul and character of the original designs.

At the heart of the Black K-Phaser is its eight-stage, all-analog phasing circuit. The use of photoresistors, which are light-dependent resistors, gives the phaser a particularly smooth and organic sound that is difficult to replicate with other technologies. The module features a large, central knob for controlling the phase shift, as well as a resonance control that can add a dramatic and swirling character to the effect. A unique feature of the Black K-Phaser is the "Spread" mode, which detunes the all-pass filters, resulting in a wider and more complex stereo image and a more pronounced phasing effect. The number of filter stages involved in the resonance path can also be selected via a DIP switch on the back of the module, allowing you to further customize the character of the phaser. The Black K-Phaser also includes a built-in, voltage-controlled LFO with selectable waveforms. This LFO can be used to modulate the phaser's sweep, creating classic and evolving phasing effects. The LFO also has its own dedicated output, so it can be used as an independent modulation source for other modules in your system.
